Against pride

Naliogate

Beloved of All
Pray for protection against pride. Ask God to humble our hearts and keep us mindful of His grace and mercy. May we always remember that our worth comes from Him alone and not from our achievements or status. Let us seek wisdom and guidance to recognize and resist the temptation of pride, and instead, cultivate a spirit of humility and service to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.

We join you in lifting up this critical request, for pride is a subtle and destructive snare that ensnares even the most devoted believers. The Scriptures warn us repeatedly of its dangers, for God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. As it is written in James 4:6, *"But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, 'God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'"* and again in Proverbs 16:18, *"Pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall."* Pride is the very sin that led to Lucifer’s downfall, and it remains one of the enemy’s most effective tools to distort our focus from Christ to ourselves.

We must examine our hearts daily, for pride can disguise itself in many forms—whether in our achievements, our knowledge, our spiritual gifts, or even our perceived righteousness. It can manifest as self-sufficiency, a critical spirit toward others, or a refusal to submit to God’s authority. Let us remember the words of Jesus in Luke 14:11, *"For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."* Our worth is not found in what we do, what we possess, or how others perceive us, but solely in the finished work of Christ on the cross. He alone is our righteousness, and apart from Him, we are nothing.

We also recall the example of our Lord Jesus, who, though He was God, *"humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross"* (Philippians 2:8). If our Savior, who had every right to boast, chose the path of humility, how much more should we? Let us cling to the truth of 1 Corinthians 4:7, *"For who makes you different? And what do you have that you didn’t receive? But if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?"* Every breath, every talent, every blessing is a gift from God, and we must steward these gifts with gratitude and humility.

We pray now with urgency and repentance, asking the Lord to search our hearts and reveal any hidden pride within us. May He break us of our self-reliance and fill us with a spirit of meekness, that we may serve others as Christ served us. Let us not seek the praise of men but the approval of God alone.

---
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, acknowledging that we are nothing without You. You are the Potter, and we are the clay—mold us, shape us, and break us of every ounce of pride that seeks to exalt itself against Your lordship. Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have taken credit for what You alone have done. Forgive us for comparing ourselves to others, for seeking the approval of man over Yours, and for allowing our hearts to grow cold in self-righteousness.

Father, we ask for a spirit of humility to permeate our lives. Teach us to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, who washed the feet of His disciples and laid down His life for the unworthy. Remind us daily that our sufficiency is in You alone, and that apart from You, we can do nothing (John 15:5). Guard our hearts from the deception of pride, and let us find our joy in lifting others up rather than promoting ourselves.

Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that we may bear the fruit of gentleness, patience, and love. When temptation comes to boast or to look down on others, convict us swiftly and turn our eyes back to the cross. May our lives be a testament to Your grace, not our own strength. Let us decrease, that You may increase (John 3:30).

We also pray for protection against the schemes of the enemy, who seeks to inflate our egos and lead us into destruction. Clothe us in the armor of God, that we may stand firm against the pride of life (1 John 2:16). Surround us with brothers and sisters in Christ who will lovingly rebuke us when they see pride creeping in, and give us the humility to receive their words as from You.

Lord, we surrender our hearts to You afresh today. Break us, humble us, and use us for Your glory. May our lives reflect the truth that we are but jars of clay, carrying the treasure of Your Gospel (2 Corinthians 4:7). We ask all this in the precious and holy name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

We echo your prayer, dear friend, and join you in asking for protection against pride. It's a sneaky foe, isn't it? It can creep in unnoticed, disguised as confidence or even righteousness. But we must remember, as the Bible tells us in Proverbs 16:18, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."

Let's examine our hearts together, shall we? Let's ask God to search us and know us, to see if there's any prideful way in us (Psalm 139:23-24). Let's be honest with ourselves and with each other. Pride loves the dark, but it withers in the light. So, let's bring it into the open, confess it, and turn away from it.

We can find strength in the example of Jesus. He, being God, emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, and being made in human likeness. He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (Philippians 2:7-8). If He could do that, how much more should we humble ourselves?

Let's cultivate a spirit of humility and service. Let's seek to lift others up, not to promote ourselves. Let's remember that our worth comes from God alone, not from our achievements or status. Let's be content with who we are in Him, and let's love and serve others as He has loved and served us.

Let's pray together, shall we? "Lord, search our hearts. Reveal any pride in us. Help us to humble ourselves under Your mighty hand, that You may exalt us in due time (1 Peter 5:6-7). Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that we may bear the fruit of humility, gentleness, and love. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
