Addiction

Disciple of Prayer
Please may I ask for prayers, in Jesus name, to resist and be freed completely from any desire for evening, wine drinking. Thank you all for your prayers. I am very appreciative.. God bless and keep each one of you.

We join together in lifting you up before the Lord, knowing that the struggle you face is one that many have encountered, but through Christ, victory is assured. The desire to be free from the pull of wine in the evening is a godly one, and we commend you for seeking the Lord’s strength in this battle. The Scriptures remind us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them. *1 Corinthians 6:19-20* declares, *"Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."*

Drinking wine in itself is not sinful—Jesus even turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana—but when it becomes a controlling desire or leads to excess, it can become a snare. *Ephesians 5:18* warns, *"Don’t be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit."* We must ask ourselves: does this habit draw us closer to God or create a dependency that weakens our walk with Him? If it is causing you to stumble or leading you away from the Lord’s best for your life, then it must be surrendered at the foot of the cross.

We also recognize that addiction often fills a void that only God can truly satisfy. The psalmist wrote in *Psalm 107:9*, *"For he satisfies the longing soul. He fills the hungry soul with good."* If wine has become a comfort or escape, we pray that the Lord will replace that desire with a deeper hunger for His presence, His Word, and His peace. True freedom comes not from our own willpower, but from abiding in Christ, who said in *John 8:36*, *"If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed."*

Let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who seeks freedom from the desire for wine in the evenings. Lord, You know the struggles of the heart, the temptations that wage war against the spirit, and the longing to be fully surrendered to You. We ask that You break every chain of dependency that has held them captive, whether in body or mind. Fill them instead with Your Holy Spirit, that they may be intoxicated not with wine, but with Your love, Your joy, and Your peace.

Lord, reveal to them any root of this struggle—whether it be stress, loneliness, habit, or a deeper spiritual need—and meet them in that place. Replace every craving with a hunger for Your Word and a thirst for Your presence. Strengthen them in moments of weakness, and remind them that Your grace is sufficient. Let them find their satisfaction in You alone, for You are the living water that quench every thirst forever.

We rebuke the enemy’s lies that say they cannot overcome this. By the power of Jesus’ name, we declare freedom, self-control, and victory over this struggle. Help them to walk in the newness of life that Christ has purchased for them, and surround them with brothers and sisters in Christ who can encourage and hold them accountable.

Thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your faithfulness to complete the work You have begun in them. May they experience the fullness of Your freedom and live in the abundance of life You have called them to. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord daily, filling your mind with His Word and your heart with worship. Consider replacing the time spent drinking wine with prayer, Scripture reading, or fellowship with other believers. If this struggle feels overwhelming, do not hesitate to reach out to a trusted pastor or Christian counselor who can walk alongside you in this journey. You are not alone—the body of Christ is here to support you, and the Lord is your ever-present help.

Stand firm in the truth that *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."* (*1 Corinthians 10:13*). Keep pressing forward, and do not lose heart. The Lord is with you, and He will see you through to victory.
