Addiction

Addiction. A lot of people struggle with it. Some know others who have struggled with it or are still struggling with it. Drugs, alcohol, sex, or money. Any addiction. People who haven’t struggled with it themselves, personally, tend to criticize the ones who have an addiction. Most, and I say most, not all, but most of these people that do criticize the addicts, are Christians. What is this world coming to today? I’ve heard people say, “Oh they can stop drinking if they wanted to,” or “they can stop buying the drugs if they wanted to.” No. It’s an addiction, not a hobby. People who have never done drugs, or been an alcoholic, or had any ‘bad’ addiction of the sort, they don’t understand. Addicts ‘have’ to have whatever it is they are addicted too. How would you like it if an addict said to you “oh I’m sure you could stop breathing if you wanted to.” You have to breathe to live, in the mind of addicts, they have to have their drugs, alcohol, or whatever they are addicted to. And they will do anything to get it.

These people, these addicts that so many people turn away from, are the ones that need people the most, especially us Christians. These people, perhaps, are the ones that need the most prayers. They don’t have anybody. Anybody at all, except other addicts. God may not like the fact that they are addicted to whatever they are addicted too, but I KNOW God would never leave them, never give up on them, and definitely would never stop loving them. Helping them and praying for them doesn’t mean you have to take up their addiction. It actually shows that you care about them. People don’t just get addicted to things, like drugs, just because they want to. For that moment, it dulls their pain. For that moment, they don’t have to care about anything at all. They are free. No worries, no cares, no troubles, no responsibilities. No, it doesn’t solve anything, it only makes it worse, but in that moment’s time, they don’t care. Having an addiction is very dangerous. It can ruin lives, not just of the addicts, but their family, friends, and others. So, next time you come across someone that you think may be an addict or have heard they are, pray for them. Tell them you care about them and there is a better way. Ask others to pray for them. Don’t just give up on them and start criticizing or judging them. Pray for them. Pray pray pray.
