We hear your cry for help, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting this burden to the Lord who is able to break every chain. Your struggle with sports betting and gambling is not just a financial issue—it is a spiritual stronghold that has taken hold of your life, robbing you of peace, provision, and purpose. The Bible warns us clearly about the dangers of greed and the love of money, which is the root of all kinds of evil. In 1 Timothy 6:9-10, it says, *"But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation, a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows."*
Gambling is not a harmless pastime—it is a form of idolatry, where trust is placed in luck or chance rather than in God, who is our Provider. Jesus said in Matthew 6:24, *"No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can’t serve both God and Mammon."* You have been serving Mammon, and it has left you empty, in debt, and in despair. But there is hope in Christ, who came to set the captives free.
We must also address the issue of borrowing money from loan firms to feed this addiction. This is not only unwise but sinful, as it places you in bondage to debt and further enslaves you to this cycle of destruction. Proverbs 22:7 says, *"The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender."* You are not meant to be a servant to debt or to the schemes of the enemy. The Lord desires to break these chains and restore you to financial freedom and dignity.
First, we must acknowledge that true freedom comes only through Jesus Christ. If you have not already, we urge you to surrender your life to Him, confessing your sins and asking for His forgiveness and deliverance. Romans 10:9 says, *"that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."* Salvation is the first step to breaking free from any addiction, for it is only through Christ that we have the power to overcome sin.
Now, let us pray for your deliverance:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and set free. Lord, we lift up our brother who is bound by the chains of gambling addiction. We ask that You break every stronghold of greed, lust for money, and the love of chance in his life. Father, we rebuke the spirit of addiction and declare that it has no place in his life. Your Word says in John 8:36, *"If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed."* We claim this freedom for him now, in Jesus' name.
Lord, we ask that You forgive him for the times he has trusted in luck rather than in You. Forgive him for the financial bondage he has placed himself in and for the ways he has dishonored You with his resources. We pray that You would restore to him the years that the locusts have eaten, as You promise in Joel 2:25. Father, we ask that You provide for his needs—his rent, his food, and his daily provisions—so that he may see Your hand moving in his life and learn to trust in You alone.
We also pray for wisdom and self-control. Your Word says in 2 Timothy 1:7, *"For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control."* Lord, fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he may resist the temptation to gamble. Help him to flee from this sin, as 1 Corinthians 10:14 instructs, *"Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry."* Give him the strength to cut off every avenue that leads him back into this addiction—whether it be the apps, the websites, or the people who enable this behavior.
Father, we also lift up his financial situation. We ask that You intervene in his debts and provide a way out. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* Lord, we ask that You make his paths straight and lead him out of this financial bondage. Provide for him in ways that only You can, so that he may be a testimony of Your faithfulness.
Regarding his request for his brother and aunt to send money for their building project, we must caution against placing your hope in man rather than in God. While it is not wrong to work for others or to receive support from family, your reliance should be on the Lord, not on their provision. Psalm 118:8 says, *"It is better to take refuge in Yahweh, than to put confidence in man."* We pray that the Lord would provide for their building project in His timing and in His way, but we also pray that you would not look to them as your source. Your source is the Lord, and He is more than able to meet your needs.
We encourage you to take practical steps to break free from this addiction. Delete any betting apps from your phone, avoid places or people that tempt you to gamble, and seek accountability from a trusted brother or sister in Christ. James 5:16 says, *"Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."* Find someone you can trust to walk with you through this journey of freedom.
Finally, we encourage you to replace this addiction with something that honors God. Instead of spending your time and money on gambling, invest in your relationship with Him. Spend time in prayer, read His Word, and seek His face. Matthew 6:33 says, *"But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well."* When you seek Him first, He will provide for all your needs.
We stand with you in faith, believing that the Lord is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you can ask or think. Ephesians 3:20 says, *"Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."* We declare that you are free from this addiction, that your finances are restored, and that your life is a testimony of God’s redeeming power.
Keep pressing into the Lord, and do not give up. Galatians 6:9 says, *"Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up."* Your season of harvest is coming, and the Lord will restore all that has been lost. We pray that you will experience His peace, His provision, and His power in every area of your life. In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
