Beloved Servant
Please pray for me because I tried to reconcile with abusive family members recently and it did not go well. I did it because I believed God was leading me to. My mother and sister were pressuring me to as well although I wasn't listening to them as much. There has been demonic activity involved in this abuse and my mother and sister have been like they are under a spell. They do not see how these people have abused me even though it's happening right in front of them (or maybe they just don't care) and they have often been subjected to abuse from these people themselves. After things with me reconciling with these family members went so badly, God directed me to stop reaching out to them. But my mom and sister expect me to still interact with these people and if I try to explain that I don't want to, they aren't going to listen to me. Please pray for me. Throughout the years, I have wondered whether severing ties with my immediate family is something I should do related to the abuse that my mother and sister refuse to see but I kept coming back to it not being the right choice. However, this year, I'm really wondering if it is actually the right choice. Please pray for me about all this. I don't want to have to interact with these evil people in any way. They are very malevolent. There is something wrong with all of them and I truly believe they are possessed. Many of them are in the occult - witchcraft, psychic work, necromancy, voodoo, tons of things. Thank you.

We hear you and we are standing with you in this very painful and confusing time. We grieve with you over the hurt you have endured and the failed attempt at reconciliation that has left you wounded and pressured. Our God sees all that has been done to you and He is near to the brokenhearted. As it is written The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. He does not overlook abuse or oppression for we read Yahweh tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and him who loves violence Psalm 11:5.

We want to affirm what you have discerned about the occult and demonic activity. Scripture is very clear that witchcraft, psychic work, necromancy, voodoo and every form of sorcery are an abomination to God and are forbidden for His people Deuteronomy 18:10-12. We rebuke those works of darkness and we have no fellowship with them as we are commanded Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them Ephesians 5:11. The spiritual battle you describe is real for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. We must test the spirits whether they are of God 1 John 4:1 and we must resist the devil knowing that when we submit to God and resist him he will flee from us James 4:7. In Jesus we have been given authority to overcome the power of the enemy Luke 10:19 and we are called to put on the whole armor of God Ephesians 6:11.

We also hear your struggle with your mother and sister. We honor your desire to obey God above all else. While we are commanded to honor our father and mother Exodus 20:12, we are also commanded that we must obey God rather than men Acts 5:29. When family members pressure you to return to abusive and occult entangled relationships that God has told you to step away from, you must follow the Lord's leading. Forgiveness is commanded of us Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32, but forgiveness does not require immediate reconciliation or trust when there is no repentance and danger remains. Reconciliation requires truth and repentance and boundaries are biblical. The prudent sees danger and hides himself Proverbs 22:3 and we are warned Don't be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals 1 Corinthians 15:33. We are to have no fellowship with darkness and to be separate from what defiles 2 Corinthians 6:14. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18, but peace never requires you to remain in harm's way or under spiritual bondage.

You asked about whether severing ties with your immediate family is the right choice. We cannot make that decision for you, but we encourage you to seek godly wisdom and counsel as you guard your heart with all diligence Proverbs 4:23. It is not dishonoring to set firm boundaries or to create distance for a season or even for a longer time when your safety, your spiritual health and your peace are at stake. Sometimes separation is the most loving and truthful choice for everyone involved. We encourage you to bring this before the Lord continually for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. Seek wise pastoral counsel from a trusted Bible believing church, and do not walk this road alone. We also pray that the eyes of your mother and sister would be opened for the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving 2 Corinthians 4:4 and that God would enlighten the eyes of their hearts Ephesians 1:18 to see the abuse that is happening right in front of them.

We noticed your request speaks of God but does not mention Jesus Christ. We say this in love because there is no other way to the Father and no other name by which we are saved. Jesus Himself said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is only through faith in Jesus that we have access to God, forgiveness of sins and eternal life. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. We encourage you to call upon the name of Jesus for every need, for protection, for deliverance, for wisdom and for healing, trusting that He alone is your refuge and strength.

We lift you up together before our Father now.

Father in heaven we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift our dear brother or sister to You. We thank You that You see every tear and every wound and that You are a refuge for the oppressed. We ask that You surround this precious one with Your protection as the one who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Psalm 91:1 and that You give Your angels charge over them. We ask for Your perfect peace to guard heart and mind Philippians 4:7 and for Your wisdom to make clear every next step. Lord we ask that You break every assignment of the enemy and every influence of witchcraft and the occult over this family and that You cause every evil work to be exposed and rendered powerless in Jesus name. We pray that You would open the eyes of this mother and sister to see the truth and to have compassion and discernment, and that You would convict the abusive family members of their sin and bring them to repentance if they will turn to You. Give our loved one courage to obey Your voice above every other voice, to keep healthy boundaries without guilt, and to forgive as You have forgiven while not being required to trust those who remain unrepentant and dangerous. Heal the deep places of trauma, restore what has been stolen, and lead to a safe community of believers who will provide godly counsel and support. We declare that You have not given a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self control 2 Timothy 1:7 and we ask for strength to stand firm until You bring full deliverance and restoration. We pray all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to remain in daily prayer and in the Word, to put on the armor of God each day, to stay connected to a faithful church, and to keep seeking the Lord's direction step by step. Do not be pressured into quick reconciliation for the sake of appeasement. Trust that God who led you to stop reaching out will also lead you in whether to maintain distance or to re engage in the future and only on His terms. He is faithful to guide you and to be your defender and healer in this long and painful journey.

Thank you for trusting us with this painful story. We are so sorry for the hurt you have carried and for how hard that recent attempt to reconcile was. It makes sense you feel torn and exhausted, especially with your mom and sister urging you to keep engaging when you have sensed God leading you to step back for now.

When abuse has been part of the story for a long time, it can leave a deep sense of powerlessness and confusion, and it is especially disorienting when others close to you do not see the harm even while you are experiencing it. We hear your concern about spiritual darkness in your family, and we want to center your safety and peace in Christ who holds you secure even when things around you feel threatening and chaotic.

You do not have to sort out the bigger question about future contact with your immediate family all at once or alone. One steady next step we encourage is to bring this to one safe, wise person who can walk with you over time, a pastor or a trusted Christian counselor, to help you think through boundaries, how to respond to pressure from your mom and sister, and what ongoing support looks like for you. If you ever feel unsafe, please reach out right away to that support person or other trusted help nearby.

We are praying for you for wisdom, protection, and healing as you seek God's direction.

Father, we lift our friend to You. Surround them with Your presence and peace, guard them from harm, and give them clear wisdom for each conversation and decision ahead. Provide trusted people to support them and help them heal in Your care. Lead them step by step as they seek You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your sorrow has been laid before the Lord and He has heard the cry of a wounded heart. We have brought your burden before the throne of grace, asking our faithful God to be your refuge and your deliverer in this dark and painful valley.

We pray that the God who says, Deliver him from going down to the pit, for I have found a ransom, will keep your soul from that pit and preserve your life from perishing. There is a ransom found in Christ Jesus His Son, who has borne the penalty of sin, and in Him alone is deliverance from guilt, from the power of darkness, and from the assaults of the evil one. We ask the Lord to deliver you from the devil, from evil company, and from every work of darkness that has sought to oppress you and your house. For deliverance from the power of sin and from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for it.

We pray for your protection, that the Lord who preserves His people from all evil and preserves the soul will be a wall about you, and that even the least word from Christ, whose leaves are for the healing of the nations, may bring healing to your wounds. The Lord has chastened sorely, and yet He has not given you over unto death. Troubles do not spring out of the dust, but the Lord Himself sits as a Refiner at the door of the furnace, and what comes through His hand, even when it comes distinctly through the malice of men, bears the aspect of a Father's chastening and shall be made profitable to those who trust Him.

We pray for wisdom in the trial that presses upon you concerning your mother and sister and those abusive members of your family. To honour father and mother does not require you to submit yourself again to abuse or to walk willingly into fellowship with darkness. The Scripture calls us to live peaceably with all men as far as it lies with us, and also to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather to reprove them. When men give themselves to witchcraft, psychic work, necromancy and voodoo, they open the door to the prince of darkness, and the child of God must not make peace with that darkness. We ask the Lord to give you clear discernment to know when to withdraw, when to set a firm boundary, and when to be silent, and to give you courage to obey His direction when He bids you cease from reaching out. If a separation for a season or a longer severing of close ties is necessary for your safety and for obedience to Christ, may the Lord make it plain to you through His Word, through prayer, and through the counsel of wise and godly pastors and brethren who know you and can walk with you.

We pray also for your mother and sister, that the Lord who can break any spell of deception will open their eyes to see the abuse that is before them and to be delivered themselves from its power. That which seems like a charm upon them can be broken by the same hand that brings forth His people with joy out of the house of bondage. No power of sympathy or experience can deliver a soul held in such captivity, but the outstretched arm of Jehovah can.

May the Lord grant you good cheer from Christ's own call. He calls you to Himself, and there is balm in Gilead only at Calvary. Rise and come to Him anew each day, make use of what grace you have, and declare the works of the Lord who has kept you and will keep you. We ask Him to surround you with faithful company, with a true church family that will shelter you, counsel you, and help you to stand, and to give you rest from the noise of archers.

We commit you to Him who is gracious and who has given commandment to save you. May He keep back your soul from the pit, heal your wounds, establish your steps, and cause you to live and not die, that you may declare His faithful works. In the name of Jesus Christ our only ransom and our only hope we pray. Amen.
