Abuse caused long term anxiety

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I was abused for so long by a combo of family, workplace abuse, and strangers for over 30 years. It has contributed to anxiety, perfectionism, and a need for approval. I do things in a way because I don’t want God to be mad at me. The “Honor thy Mother and Father” scripture was twisted to make me conform to 100 percent obedience even in adulthood. If I didn’t comply, the silent treatment was used, doors slammed, telephone hung up on me and kept off the hook, blamed for everything, and financially abused. My self-esteem dropped so low that I looked for love in all the wrong places and met individuals who were equally abusive. They were held in more esteem by my parent than I was. I’m still dealing with anxiety. I’m trying to forgive but it’s hard. Family members have since passed away. The above experiences made me very afraid of God and made me scared that He would be angry with me or not listen to me because that’s how my parents acted. At one point I was absolutely terrified of God. Father in Jesus’ name, please forgive me, please I don’t want God to be mad at me.

I prayed that God in Jesus' name will answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God Loves You. Thank You Jesus!!!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

🙏Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. Bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God solution focused heart, mind, spirit, and attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

Our hearts break for the deep wounds you have carried for so long, and we grieve with you over the betrayal, manipulation, and cruelty you endured at the hands of those who should have loved and protected you. The abuse you suffered was never your fault, and the fear, anxiety, and distorted view of God that resulted are the enemy’s attempts to keep you bound in shame and lies. But we serve a God who sees your pain, who collects every tear in His bottle (Psalm 56:8), and who longs to heal your broken heart. He is not an angry Father waiting to punish you—He is the Good Shepherd who pursues you with relentless love, who laid down His life to set you free.

The command to "honor your father and mother" (Exodus 20:12) was never meant to be a weapon to control you or justify abuse. Scripture is clear that parents are not to provoke their children to anger (Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21), and no human authority—including family—has the right to demand obedience that contradicts God’s Word or harms His children. The silent treatment, financial abuse, and emotional manipulation you endured were sinful and evil, not godly discipline. Jesus Himself rebuked religious leaders who used Scripture to burden people with legalism while neglecting justice, mercy, and faith (Matthew 23:23-24). Your struggle to forgive is understandable, but forgiveness is not excusing their sins or pretending the abuse didn’t happen. It is releasing the debt they owe you into God’s hands, trusting Him to be the just Judge (Romans 12:19). He sees what was done in secret, and He will repay.

Your fear of God’s anger is a lie rooted in the distortion of His character. The Bible tells us that "God is love" (1 John 4:8) and that "perfect love casts out fear" (1 John 4:18). If you are in Christ, there is *no* condemnation for you (Romans 8:1). Jesus took the full wrath of God on the cross so that you would never have to fear it. He invites you to come boldly to His throne of grace, not to receive punishment, but to find mercy and help in your time of need (Hebrews 4:16). When you feel the weight of anxiety or the urge to perform for God’s approval, remember His words to you: *"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."* (Matthew 11:28-30).

The enemy has used your past to make you feel unworthy of love, but God says you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), chosen and precious in His sight (1 Peter 2:4). The fact that you are still here, still seeking God despite the darkness you’ve walked through, is a testament to His faithfulness in your life. He has not abandoned you, and He will complete the good work He began in you (Philippians 1:6).

As for the relationships where you sought love in wrong places, we gently but firmly remind you that God’s design for intimacy is within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:24, Hebrews 13:4). If any of those past relationships involved sexual sin, we encourage you to repent and receive God’s cleansing (1 John 1:9). He redeems all things, and your story is not over. He can restore what the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25) and give you a future filled with hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we lift up Your beloved child before You, who has carried the weight of abuse, rejection, and fear for far too long. Lord, we ask that You would break every chain of anxiety, perfectionism, and people-pleasing that the enemy has used to bind them. Replace their distorted image of You with the truth of Your nature—You are a Father who sings over them (Zephaniah 3:17), who delights in them, who collects their tears and heals their wounds. Lord, rebuked the spirit of fear that has tormented them and fill them with Your perfect love, which casts out all fear.

We pray for deep healing of their heart and mind. Renew their thoughts, Lord, and help them to see themselves as You see them—redeemed, valued, and deeply loved. Break the power of the lies they were told, especially the twisting of Your Word to justify abuse. Holy Spirit, bring to their remembrance the truth of Scripture when the enemy tries to accuse them or make them feel unworthy.

Father, we ask for the grace to forgive those who sinned against them. This is a supernatural work, and we know You are faithful to complete it. Help them to release the pain into Your hands, trusting You to vindicate them in Your perfect timing. Comfort them as they mourn the loss of relationships that should have been safe but were instead sources of harm.

We also pray for deliverance from the fear of Your anger. Let them know, deep in their spirit, that Jesus has already borne Your wrath on their behalf. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Help them to approach Your throne with confidence, knowing they are welcomed and cherished.

Lastly, Lord, we pray for godly relationships in their life—people who will reflect Your love, encourage them in truth, and walk with them in this season of healing. If it is Your will, restore what was stolen from them and bring beauty from these ashes (Isaiah 61:3).

We declare freedom over them in the name of Jesus Christ. No weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and the plans You have for them are for good and not for evil, to give them a future and a hope. Thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness. We trust You to complete this work.

In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, Amen.

We encourage you to meditate on these Scriptures daily:
- **Psalm 34:18**: *"Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."*
- **Isaiah 41:10**: *"Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness."*
- **2 Timothy 1:7**: *"For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control."*
- **Romans 8:38-39**: *"For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."*

You are not alone in this. We are standing with you in prayer, believing for your complete healing and restoration. If you feel led, we encourage you to seek biblical counseling or a trusted, mature believer to walk with you through this process. God is faithful, and He will not leave you in this place of pain. Keep seeking Him—He is your healer, your redeemer, and your ever-present help.
