Negotiations for Peace
We join with you in bringing this need before the Lord Jesus, asking for His mercy, His rest, and His help in this appointment and in the battles you are facing.

We hear your cry for rest and for a nap, and for your friend to be able to come and stand with you as a witness at your appointment, especially while dealing with sickness and concerns about dementia. God sees your weariness and the burden you both carry, and He invites you to rest in Him. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. And we are reminded in Psalm 127:2 that he gives sleep to his beloved, and in Psalm 4:8, I will both lay myself down and sleep in peace, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.

We also take comfort that the battles you face are not yours alone. In Exodus 14:14 we read, Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still, and in 2 Chronicles 20:15, the battle is not yours, but God’s. Your help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth as Psalm 121:2 tells us, and He is present with you and your friend in this time of sickness and uncertainty.

We pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, asking for Your will to be done. We lift up our dear one who is weary and in need of rest, and we ask that You would grant peaceful sleep and a refreshing nap very soon, that You would quiet the mind and body and restore strength. Father, we ask that You would make a way for the friend to come to the appointment to witness and to support, give them both strength and health, and ease the sickness that weighs on them. We ask for Your healing touch, for clarity of mind, and for peace regarding any fear of dementia, knowing that You are the Great Physician and that You hold our days in Your hands. Guide the appointment, give wisdom to all involved, and let Your truth and justice prevail. We cast this battle upon You, Lord, trusting that You fight for us. Let Your peace that surpasses understanding guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. We ask all these things in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you as 1 Peter 5:7 says, and to rest in His promise in Isaiah 40:29 that He gives power to the weak and increases strength to those who have no might. We are standing with you and your friend, trusting the Lord to provide rest, help, and victory in His perfect timing.

We hear how worn out you are and how much you are hoping for rest and for help at this appointment. Wanting to be able to nap soon and having a trusted friend come with you to witness and help you remember what is said makes good sense, especially when you are dealing with sickness and worries about memory.

It is a lot to carry when your body is not getting the rest it needs and your mind feels foggy or forgetful. We are praying for steadiness for you in these days leading up to the appointment.

One small step that often helps when you are tired and anxious before a visit is to jot down ahead of time the main things you want the clinician to know and the questions you want to ask, and to ask your friend to take notes for you during the appointment so you can review them together later. If you are concerned about ongoing sickness or changes in memory, we encourage you to share those concerns openly with your medical provider as well as bringing them to the Lord in prayer.

Father, we bring our brother or sister to You in Jesus' name. Please grant rest when it is needed, calm in the waiting, and Your help and clarity at the upcoming appointment. Bless the friend who is coming alongside to support and witness. Give wisdom to the care team and peace to this dear one as they trust You with these battles. Amen.

Your request for rest and for help in sickness and weakness has been brought before the Lord with prayerful care, and we join our hearts with yours in crying, Help us Jesus, for the battle is Yours.

We are reminded that our Lord Jesus is the same today as when He walked among the sick folk of old, and He is just as able to heal tonight as He was in days gone by. The Scripture says, He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. There is no sickness so hard to bear as that which weighs upon both body and mind, and when sleep departs and memory fails, the soul feels its need keenly. Yet even this affliction does not place you beyond His reach. Let the Great Physician but speak the healing word, and in a moment strength and mercy can be made known. He sent His Word and healed them and delivered them from their destructions, for the Word of God has a sort of omnipotent power in it.

You ask also for the gift of sleep, and we take comfort in that sweet promise, So He giveth His beloved sleep. There is a sleep of security which the Lord gives even in the midst of trouble, though the woods around may seem dark and full of perils. To lie down and rest is a gift from His hand, not merely from nature, and He can bestow it upon the weary when we cry to Him. May He grant you this needful rest, to refresh both body and spirit, and to prepare you for what lies before you.

We also lift before Him your friend whom you desire to come to the appointment to witness for you, and your burden concerning sickness and the cloud of dementia. The Lord takes our part with them that help us, and it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. As He provided for Elijah in his affliction and did not forsake him in his trial, so He will not forsake you. Even the highest degree of grace does not keep us from affliction, but it does secure to us the care of a faithful Father through it. May He in His providence make a way for your friend to stand with you, to be eyes and ears and a faithful witness on your behalf, and may He give wisdom and kindness to all who attend you.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, look in mercy upon this weary one who seeks rest and help. Give sleep to Your beloved, quiet the troubled thoughts, and renew strength. Lay Your healing hand upon every infirmity of body and mind, and if it be Your will, lift the burden of sickness and failing memory. Provide a helper for the hour of need, let the friend come as desired to witness with faithfulness, and let all that is done at the appointment be done in truth and clarity. We trust not in our own power but in Your mercy through Jesus Christ, whose blood cleanses from all sin and whose grace is sufficient for every trial. Speak Your Word of healing and peace, and cause praise to rise where now there is weariness. In the name of Jesus our only hope and Saviour we ask it, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
