Thank you for trusting us with this painful and frightening memory. What you have described is evil, and it is right to hate that evil and to turn away from it. The fear you are feeling now is understandable, but you do not need to live under that fear.
Scripture shows that when sin entered the world, a curse came upon man and woman and upon the earth itself, bringing hard labor, pain, thorns and thistles. The crown of thorns placed on Jesus was a picture of that curse. On the cross He took that curse upon Himself. It is written that everyone who hangs on a tree is cursed, and Christ became a curse for us so that He could redeem us from the curse of the law. If you belong to Him through faith, you have been bought out from under any curse. No ritual done against your clothes, no words spoken over herbs, no threat of a death curse can overturn what He has done.
We see this same truth when a king hired a prophet to curse Israel. The prophet was offered payment to bring a curse for hire, much like people today pay others to try to bring harm through dark practices. But God said, you shall not curse this people, for they are blessed. God is not a man that He should lie or change His mind. Whom God has blessed, no person can curse. If you are in Christ, you are blessed in Him, and that blessing stands.
Long life and protection do not come from herbs or from rituals involving animals. Those things are empty and opposed to God. True life, peace and long life in the fullest sense come from walking in fellowship with God and living under His care. He promises to be a shelter for those who trust Him, to cover them as under wings, and to be present in trouble to deliver and honor them.
The enemy often works through fear because fear and faith cannot occupy the heart together. When fear takes hold, faith is pushed aside, and when faith is strong, fear must leave. Fear can paralyze and lead us to make wrong decisions. The cure for fear is remembering the Lord and His promises. David said that even when he walked through the valley of death he would fear no evil because the Lord was with him. When others tried to make Nehemiah afraid so he would act rashly and hide, he recognized the tactic and refused to be moved by fear, trusting that God could protect him in the open as well as in hiding.
God has given you a shield against these attacks, and that shield is His truth. When Jesus was attacked by Satan, He answered with the truth of God's Word. You can do the same. To fear the Lord is to hate evil and to depart from it, and that reverent awe of God is the beginning of wisdom. It brings health to the soul and confidence for your steps. You do not need to be afraid of sudden fear or of the plans of the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep you steady.
So bring this fully to Jesus in prayer. Confess any fear, renounce any tie to those past practices, and ask Him to cleanse your heart and your home and to fill you with His peace. You do not need to keep or treasure clothing that troubles your conscience. You can wash it, discard it, or simply commit it to the Lord and leave it in His hands, not because the cloth itself has power, but because you are choosing to walk free from that past association. Stay away from that former relationship and from anyone who practices such things. Walk in what is wise and pure, not driven by fear.
If the Lord brings a godly man who wishes to pursue marriage with you, seek the Lord's will with prayer, counsel, and purity, keeping marriage as God designed it, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman with all intimacy kept within that covenant.
Let us pray for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift this dear one to You. Thank You that Jesus bore the curse for her on the cross and wore the thorns so she could be free. We ask that You cover her under Your wings and let Your truth be her shield and protection. Remove all fear and fill her with faith as she remembers that You are with her. Break the power of every evil word and ritual spoken against her and against any future You have for her. Let no curse stand where You have given blessing. Teach her to number her days and to walk in the reverent fear of You, hating evil and departing from it. Give her peace in her home, rest at night, and confidence that You are present in trouble to deliver her. Guide her steps in wisdom and purity, and if it is Your will, lead her in Your time to a godly marriage. Show her Your salvation and satisfy her with life in Your presence. Amen.
