We join with you in prayer for this woman and we thank God for the discernment He is giving her, for that feeling that something is odd is often the Holy Spirit warning us to guard our hearts.
We agree with her that she does not need to respond back to this man on social media. It is wise and biblical to set clear boundaries with someone who does not act like a believer, who likes to drink, and who mocks what is serious to her. The word says in 2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity, or what fellowship has light with darkness. And in 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived, evil companionships corrupt good morals. A man who downplays and makes fun of something serious she experienced is not showing the love that God calls us to, for love is patient and is kind and does not behave itself inappropriately as we read in 1 Corinthians 13:4-5, and Proverbs 17:5 reminds us that mocking is not from wisdom.
We also want to address the matter of the sage burning and crystals that he says hold power. We rebuke this in the name of Jesus because this is not harmless, it is participation in practices that God forbids. The Scripture says in Deuteronomy 18:10-12 There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer, for whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. And in Isaiah 8:19 we are warned not to consult mediums and spiritists. Crystals hold no power, sage holds no power, only God holds all power as it says in 1 Chronicles 29:11 Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. To seek power from created things is idolatry and opens a door to deception. The enemy prowls as it says in 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober and self-controlled, be watchful, your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
We affirm that she was right to get rid of the gifts he gave her, including the shoes, and we see that returning what is not of God is biblical. In Acts 19:19 many of those who practiced magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. She is not obligated to keep gifts that tie her to someone who does not honor God, and she is right to notice that taking her blanket and delaying its return shows a lack of respect and a desire to maintain control. We encourage her to keep that boundary firmly and to not feel guilt for not responding, for Proverbs 4:23 says Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.
We also notice that drinking as a lifestyle is warned against in Ephesians 5:18 Do not be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, and in Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler, whoever is led astray by them is not wise. This is another sign that this man is not walking with the Lord and would not be a godly spouse. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman before God, and any courtship should be with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer who loves Jesus and will cherish and protect her. This man is not that.
We also gently share that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God and that we are saved. It is not enough to be a believer in general, we must believe in Jesus. As it says in John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If she has not already, we encourage her to place her full trust in Jesus, confessing with her mouth as Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
We now pray together for her.
Father in heaven, we lift this precious daughter to You in the name of Jesus. We thank You that You saw the serious thing she experienced today and that You do not downplay it or mock it, for You are near to the brokenhearted as Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Heal her heart, Lord, and bind up her wounds as Psalm 147:3 promises. Give her Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus as Philippians 4:7 says. Grant her wisdom liberally as James 1:5 promises, to see clearly, to keep boundaries without guilt, and to walk away from darkness and have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness as Ephesians 5:11 says. Protect her from any spiritual harm from those occult objects and practices, cleanse her home and her heart by the blood of Jesus, and surround her with godly counsel and friends who will take her seriously and honor You. Help her to keep her eyes on You, to seek first Your Kingdom, and to trust that You will guide her to a godly spouse in Your timing if it is Your will for her to marry, a man who loves You and will love her as Christ loves the church. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage her to continue to block or ignore contact without apology, to stay in the Word daily, to pray for discernment to test the spirits as 1 John 4:1 says, and to stay close to a local Bible believing church where she can be supported. We praise God that she is listening to that quiet warning inside, for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control as 2 Timothy 1:7 says.
