"A visit to the ###'s house" (I serve a purpose)

Today for devotions I decided to visit the porter's house, I wanted to learn what God was saying to Jeremiah in chapter 18:2, One of the very first things that I was taught is that, God can speak to us in many ways and forms and so he decided to speak to Jeremiah through a display, he knew that seeing the actual thing would get the message across even greater, as it did for me as well.

The bible tells us in the very same Jeremiah that he, "the Lord" knows the thoughts that he has towards us, it did not say we know the thoughts, but rather it says God knows the thoughts he has for us and many times we act like the verse reads we know the thoughts the Lord has for us. We do not know the thoughts, he does. What we do know though is that they are thoughts of peace and not evil, to give us a hope and a future and so as we continue;

The second thing I learnt was that even before conception of any pottery, the porter at the wheels already has in mind what he wants to be making, whether a vase, a lamp holder, a jar whatever it is he knows and he has ready his tools which he will be using, all this I saw at the porter's house, he also knows the designs he wants to give it and has the tools for it as well.

Thirdly I see the process that goes into making that vessel/item, the gentleness being used, the skills, craftsmanship and I marvel.

What does this mean for us today? It means that we serve a purpose. It means that your purpose may not be the same as mine but I too have a purpose.

It means that careful thought was placed when you were being fashioned. In Psalms 119:73 it says his hands made us and fashioned us. It means we are unique. It means no one knows you like your maker, and just as a manufacturer for example makes a product and creates a manual, he Christ has our manual and when you are at a loss you can turn to him.

.

Does his plan still exist even in times of trials? find out on our next issue
