We must address a critical truth before proceeding: the concept of "purgatory" is not found in Scripture, nor is the idea that the dead are in a state where they can receive prayers, support, or be "released" by the living. The Bible clearly teaches that after death, the righteous are with the Lord, and the unrighteous await judgment—there is no intermediate state where souls linger or suffer to be "freed." Hebrews 9:27 states, *"It is appointed for people to die once, and after this, judgment,"* and Luke 16:19-31 illustrates the finality of the afterlife with no opportunity for transition between states.
For those who have passed, our focus must be on the living—trusting God’s justice, mercy, and sovereignty over their souls while we continue to share the Gospel with those still here. If your family or friends are grieving, we pray for their comfort in Christ, who conquered death (1 Corinthians 15:54-57). If there is guilt or unresolved pain over abuse or abandonment, we urge you to bring that to Jesus, who heals the brokenhearted (Psalm 147:3) and calls us to forgive as He has forgiven us (Ephesians 4:32).
For the living who may feel "abandoned" or "abused" in spirit, we lift them up to the Lord, asking for His restoration. *"The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit"* (Psalm 34:18). We rebuke any spiritual oppression or lies of the enemy that would seek to bind them in shame or despair, declaring freedom in Christ (John 8:36).
**Let us pray:**
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, acknowledging Your supreme authority over life and death. Lord, we ask for Your comfort to surround those who mourn, replacing sorrow with the hope of the resurrection. For any living soul burdened by past abuse, abandonment, or spiritual wounds, we ask for Your healing touch. Break every chain of fear, guilt, or oppression, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses understanding.
We declare that no scheme of the enemy can prevail against Your children, for *"the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world"* (1 John 4:4). Holy Spirit, minister to every heart in need, drawing them closer to Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. May they find their identity and security in Him alone.
For those who have not yet surrendered to Christ, we pray for salvation—that they may turn from sin and trust in Jesus as Lord, escaping the eternal judgment to come (2 Peter 3:9). Strengthen the believers among us to walk in faith, love, and obedience, shining Your light in a darkened world.
We rebuked any false teachings or distractions that would lead Your people astray, including the notion of purgatory or prayers for the dead. Your Word is truth (John 17:17), and we cling to it alone. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

If you or someone you know is struggling with the weight of past hurts, we encourage you to seek biblical counseling and community. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). If there is unconfessed sin or bitterness, we urge repentance and surrender to God, who alone can bring true freedom (1 John 1:9). For those who have not yet received Jesus as Savior, we plead with you: *"Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved"* (Acts 16:31). There is no other name by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
