A request prayer

Disciple of Prayer
Lord, first of all thank you for everything. Thank you for answered prayers, thank for the signs. This time I would like to ask for a sign for the the prayer that i prayed for.

We rejoice with you as you give thanks to the Lord for everything and for answered prayers, for a thankful heart is precious to God. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you 1 Thessalonians 5:18. We join you in praising Him for His goodness and for the signs of His mercy you have already seen.

We also hear your desire to ask for a sign concerning the prayer you have prayed, and we want to gently encourage you in this area with what Scripture teaches. While God in His grace did give signs in the past, Jesus taught us that we are to walk by faith and trust in His Word and His will rather than seeking a sign to confirm His answer. An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet Matthew 12:39. The greatest sign has already been given in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for us. Now we walk by faith, not by sight 2 Corinthians 5:7, trusting that God hears us when we pray according to His will.

We understand the longing for assurance, and God does give us assurance, but He gives it through His Word, through the peace of the Holy Spirit, and through His faithful guidance as we trust Him. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us 1 John 5:14. So we encourage you not to put your confidence in a sign, but to place your confidence fully in the character of God and in the promises of Scripture, asking in faith without doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed James 1:6.

We also notice you addressed your prayer to Lord, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to bring every prayer to God in His name.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we thank You together for Your goodness, for Your mercy, and for every answered prayer You have already granted to this dear one. We thank You for Your faithfulness and for the ways You have shown Your hand. We ask now for Your perfect will to be done concerning the prayer that has been lifted up. Grant wisdom and discernment, calm any anxious thoughts, and help this dear one to wait patiently on You and to hear Your voice through Your Word. Fill the heart with Your peace that surpasses understanding and strengthen faith to trust You even without a visible sign, knowing that You are working all things for good for those who love You. Lead in Your truth and guide each step, and help us all to pray always in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and mediator. We ask this in Jesus name, amen.

We encourage you to continue in prayer, to dwell daily in Scripture, and to seek godly counsel as you wait on the Lord. As you wait, He will make your path clear in His perfect timing.

We were so encouraged to read your thankfulness. Thanking God for answered prayers and for signs you have already seen is a beautiful place to pray from, and we hear how much you want to know He has heard this latest prayer and to see His hand clearly. That longing for reassurance is very human, and God is not put off by it.

One thing we have found helpful is that when we ask for a sign, it also helps to ask for eyes to see how God is already leading. Sometimes He answers with a clear event, and sometimes more quietly through a growing sense of peace, through His Word, or through wise counsel around us. Waiting can feel uncertain, but it is also a place where trust deepens as we stay close to Him rather than just looking for an outcome.

It might help this week to keep your prayer before the Lord in a simple way. Write down exactly what you asked and what kind of sign you are hoping for, then bring that honestly to Him each day and ask Him to shape your desires to His will. If you can, share it with a trusted pastor or friend who knows you, so you are not discerning alone.

Father, thank You for this heart that notices Your goodness and gives thanks. You know the prayer that was lifted and the sign that is hoped for. Give clarity and peace as You lead, help to trust Your timing and Your love, and draw closer to You while waiting. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your thanksgiving is itself an evidence of grace at work within you, for an unthankful heart does not readily bless the Lord for answered prayer. It is a good sign when there is an appetite for communion with God, and when the soul remembers His mercies and renders praise. Continue in that thankfulness, for it is the very breath of the believing soul.

Concerning your desire for a sign touching the prayer you have prayed, let me speak plainly and lovingly to you. Our Lord has taught us that seeing is not believing, but believing is seeing. Faith does not live upon signs and wonders that may be seen with the eye, but upon the sure Word of God which cannot be broken. To seek a sign may become a snare, for the seeking sinner is often disobedient in this way, that he goes about here and there seeking abroad for that which is already near him in the promise of Christ. We have God's Word for it, and that is more certain than any token we might ask. Christ has said that you shall have peace if you believe on Him and He will not run back from that word.

You have asked for a thing which, as it seems to you, is for God's glory, and it may be that the answer tarries. This is sometimes a staggering blow to the earnest pleader. Yet you must feel that in any case God's will must be done. You must still continue to pray, for you do not know what God's will is, but you must pray with resignation, after your Saviour's perfect model in the garden of Gethsemane, Nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt. There are some things which we should not ask in Christ's name, as we have no promise about them, or because we have indications that they would be contrary to God's usual method of procedure. Therefore seek the Lord Himself rather than a sign from Him.

When you seek the Lord, seek Him honestly and heartily and obediently. Let your whole life be seeking the Lord. He that has begun to be conscious of his sin seeks pardon, he that is aware of his danger seeks salvation, and he that loves his God seeks His glory and His righteousness above all else. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. If you are first seeking to be right before God, to be holy and obedient, you may safely leave all other things in His hands.

Remember also the three firm grounds of confidence which remain when signs fail and feelings waver. God's sovereignty encloses you and God's angels surround you, Christ's sacrifice has cleansed you from all sin, and God abides the same forever in His immutability. His promise may tarry, but it never fails. Has God forgotten to be gracious? No, He has not. He that has taught you from your youth will not cast you away now.

I will pray for you that you may be kept from demanding a token and may instead be enabled to trust the faithful promise keeper. May the Lord give you grace to rest upon His Word, to pray with holy submission, and to find in Christ Himself all the sign and seal you need, until faith shall be made sight in His presence.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
