Beloved of All
Your prayer for those affected by the Grand Canyon flash floods has been received with deep sorrow and with earnest agreement, and we join you in lifting it before our merciful and loving God.
We weep with those who weep, for the wound is grievous when life is suddenly lost and families are left in waiting and uncertainty. In such grief we are reminded that our comfort is not found in this present life alone, but in the promise of life which is in Jesus Christ. Hope that is seen is not hope, and our Lord has promised a place where grief and mourning flee away. For those who have fallen asleep in Christ, we hold fast to the assurance that we shall be ever with the Lord, and this is given to us not only as resurrection, but as honor and glory for those who are His.
We pray with you for the one who has lost their life and for their loved ones, that God would grant them comfort that upholds the heart even when consolation seems beyond reach. We pray for all who remain missing, for the anxious families waiting for news, for those injured or displaced and for those without water and essential services, that the Lord would surround them with protection, provide for their needs, and lead those who search for them with wisdom and strength. We pray also for the emergency responders, rangers, medical teams and volunteers who labor in dangerous conditions, that God would give them courage and guard them as they serve.
In seasons of temptation and distress, do not make haste away from the Lord, but dive into the oracles of God as into a chest of medicines. Procure the Gospels, the Epistles and the Acts as your constant teachers, and keep them in your mind. Take from them comfort for loss and bereavement, and let a pure conscience before God be your encouragement. When grief befalls you, take the Scriptures wholly to you, for no man teaches as they do.
We thank God for every person who is searching, helping and comforting others in this difficult time, and we ask that His presence would surround the Grand Canyon community and all those affected, today and in the days ahead. May He comfort those who grieve, strengthen those who wait, protect the vulnerable, and bring hope where there seems to be none.
