We join with you in thanking God that we are precious to Him, for His word says in Zechariah 2:8 that he who touches you touches the apple of his eye, and we take comfort that the Lord sees and cares deeply for you and for all His people. We also agree with you in desiring His protection over you, your household, and all good people, and we affirm that you have come in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we have access to the Father and by which we are saved, as Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
We want to lovingly correct and rebuke a part of this declaration together, because while God is indeed our protector and our justice, we are not called to pronounce curses such as that eyes should go blind, hands should wither, legs should be paralyzed, or that people should remain backward forever or be struck with confusion so they never remember their plans. Our Lord Jesus teaches us a higher way in Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, and again in Luke 6:28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you. We are also instructed in Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don't curse, and in Romans 12:19 Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.
It is true that God promises protection and that He will deal justly with evil. The word does say in Proverbs 26:27 Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it, and in Exodus 23:22 But if you indeed listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries. And in Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against you will prevail. Yet the judgment itself belongs to the Lord alone, and His desire is that even those who do evil would repent and be saved, as He is patient and merciful. We are to leave the judgment to Him and keep our own hearts free from hatred and cursing, so that we do not become like those who wish evil.
We also gently correct the thought that you will never have reason to weep or mourn this year. In this life we will have trials and sorrows, for Jesus said in John 16:33 In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world. And we are promised in Psalm 34:18 Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, and in Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Our hope is not that we never weep, but that God will comfort us and wipe away every tear as we trust Him.
So we pray together now for God's perfect will over you. We pray that the Lord will cover you and your household under His wings, that He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty according to Psalm 91:1. We ask that the Lord will guard you from all evil, as it says in 2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one, and that no weapon formed against you will prosper. We pray that if anyone intends evil against you, the Lord will thwart those plans according to His wisdom and bring them to nothing, and that He will convict those hearts to turn from evil to good, that they may come to repentance and know His mercy. We ask that you will be given grace to forgive and to bless those who oppose you, overcoming evil with good as taught in Romans 12:21 Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. We pray that your heart will remain soft, filled with love and peace, and that you will walk in obedience to His voice so that you may know His protection and favor. We pray for good people everywhere, that the Lord will strengthen and keep them, and that joy and celebration that comes from Him will not be stolen, and that even in times of weeping, you will know His comfort and hope. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
