Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and your desire for God to work powerfully in your life and in the world. It is good to want the favor of God, to long for His blessing, and to understand that there is a real spiritual conflict around us. I want to stand with you in prayer, and also to help set that prayer on the firm foundation of Scripture.
The favor you are seeking is at its heart what the Bible calls grace, which is unmerited favor. It is not something we obtain by repeating words many times or by trying to persuade God through intensity. The blessings God has promised come to us through Jesus Christ alone. God made a promise to Abraham that through his seed all nations would be blessed, and that seed is Christ. Through faith in Jesus, His death and resurrection for us, we are counted righteous and brought into that covenant of blessing. The law could not bring that blessing, and our failure to keep the law cannot cancel the promise God made. We receive because of what Jesus has done, not because of our works. That is why the blessings of God in our lives are not wages for good performance, but gifts of grace that should lead us to offer ourselves to Him in thankfulness.
Scripture does speak of blessings that are connected to walking in God's ways. In the Old Testament God told His people that if they would listen to His voice and keep His commandments, blessing would come upon them and overtake them, and if they turned away they would bring hardship upon themselves. That pattern shows us that God does want to bless His people and that obedience matters. In the new covenant, that obedience flows from faith. We are blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ in heavenly places, beginning with being chosen in Him, forgiven, redeemed, and brought into fellowship with God. When we see those blessings, our first response should be gratitude and a willing surrender of our lives to Him.
You also mentioned miracles. God is absolutely able to do miracles, and His power has not lessened. But faith that rests only on seeing something spectacular is not the kind of faith Jesus seeks to build in us. Many believed when they saw miracles, yet Jesus did not entrust Himself to that kind of belief, because it was built on the spectacle rather than on His Word. God is not limited to a special night or a special atmosphere, and He does not work like a staged event. He works according to His own wisdom and will, and a more excellent way He leads us is into steady fellowship with Christ and trust in what Scripture says, whether we see a dramatic sign or not. We can ask Him for what only He can do, while trusting His goodness to answer as He knows best.
Your prayer against principalities and powers touches on something very real. Our true battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces. There is a constant warfare between the spirits who serve God and the fallen spirits who followed Satan in rebellion. We often feel the effects of that unseen battle in our minds and emotions, in unsettled thoughts, pressure, and temptation. The weapons for this warfare are not carnal. We do not fight it with human methods or effort. God has given us spiritual weapons, especially His Word, faith, and prayer. The battle is largely for the control of the mind, and it is there that we need to stand firm, bringing our thoughts under the truth of Scripture and coming to God in prayer.
So I will pray for you in this way, in agreement with what God has revealed.
Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy shown to us in Jesus Christ. I ask that my friend would know more deeply the favor that is already given in Christ, the forgiveness, redemption, and fellowship with You that come by faith alone. Help him to rest not in repetition or in seeking a spectacle, but in the promise You made and kept through Jesus. Teach him to walk in Your ways out of love and gratitude, and to offer his life to You as he sees Your goodness. Where he faces spiritual opposition, clothe him with Your strength. Help him to take up the Word of God, to hold fast in faith, and to persevere in prayer, knowing that You fight for Your people. Do what only You can do in his life and in the world, according to Your will, and let Your glory be seen as people are drawn to Your Son. May his life be a light in darkness that points others to Jesus, in whose name we pray, amen.
