While we in the USA are enjoying our Thanksgiving meal, let's all of us remember that life in God's Kingdom is not about what we eat or drink. Because of the Holy Spirit's presence and power within us, no matter where we are, we find ourselves at the table of thanksgiving since the Spirit's presence leads to the Spirit's blessings coming alive in us. Things like goodness, peace, and joy don't happen accidentally; they are the intentional work of God's presence within us through the Holy Spirit. So as we pause to eat and give thanks, let's also remember that the Holy Spirit is the source of all that is good in our lives and is the basis of our peace and the joy that sustains us. No wonder the Holy Spirit is called the gift of God, and no wonder we give thanks for this special gift!
Today's Prayer
O Father, thank you for all your many gifts showered upon me. Thank you especially for the Holy Spirit, who is transforming me to become more and more like Jesus and who empowers me to live a good life, to enjoy the peace that passes all understanding, and to know your deep and abiding joy. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
