A Christian Godly man, and a conceded girl

I started going to a prayer group at the beginning of the year. Due to my housing situation, I didn't pay attention to guys or my surroundings in the prayer group. In this second season, I needed help moving my stuff to storage, and I am had asked people in church for help, a gentleman had asked his close friend to help and he did. When I saw this guy, I ultimately saw Grace, his love for God and the fruits of the Holy Spirit. He is divorced, and has a past. I have asked a few friends if this guy has a girlfriend, and no one has said anything to me. As I kept trying to find information, I saw photos of him on a girl page, and that girl goes to the prayer group, but the problem is, they are not exclusive, not holding hands, he always has his hands in his pockets, he doesn't always go to Sunday church, I think because he works at the docs. She is a 2 years recovery alcoholic, but the problem is, on social media, she portrayers herself as a devil slayer, as everyone's muse, as someone with a good heart that no one will ever find someone like her, lota of selfies of her and sometimes provocative tops, flaunting herself. When I saw this guy, I asked God, who is He and if I can have a friendship with him, and I sent him a message on a prayer group app, with Scriptures, encouragement, and how I enjoyed his testimony. The girl didn't even go up to pray for him when he gave his testimony. They sit together at church for young adults, but she sits next to the pastors on Sunday's. When one looks at her photos, it is obvious she doesn't have Holy Spirit fruits, but conceded fruits, like social media attention and appearing as Holier than thou. She belongs to a church where the pastors themselves are 40 plus years of recovering alcoholics. This guy is in his thirties, but needs to step fully away from her because her pride will take him down with her. Pastors in that church think she is Holy, when on social media, she isn't. And she has a lot of social media accounts on IG. He can do better than her, with a mature spiritual woman and needs to stay the heck away from her. I don't know what to do because they have gone camping together and most likely having sex together. She is very immature and he needs to wake up. Please pray, his name is Fermin. I would like a chance with him, but I don't know where he is at with this girl, she is not good for him, she wants everyone in church to think she is. She even blocked someone I know for asking if her and Fermin where dating.

We hear your heart and the deep concern you have for Fermin, not just for your own desires, but for his spiritual well-being. First, let us turn to Scripture to guide our thoughts and prayers. The Bible warns us about the dangers of being unequally yoked with unbelievers, as 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 says, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?" While this woman may attend church and present herself as devout, her actions, particularly her pride, self-promotion, and the way she portrays herself on social media, reveal a heart that is not fully surrendered to Christ. Her behavior does not reflect the fruits of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-23: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Your concern about their relationship, especially the possibility of sexual immorality, is valid. The Bible is clear that sex outside of marriage is sin, as Hebrews 13:4 states, "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers." If Fermin is engaging in this behavior, it is a serious matter that needs to be addressed with truth and love. However, we must also be cautious not to judge based solely on appearances or social media, as 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us, "But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’" That said, the patterns you’ve observed are concerning and warrant prayerful discernment.

Fermin’s past, including his divorce, does not disqualify him from God’s grace or a future godly marriage. The Lord is a God of redemption, and as it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new." However, he must be wise in his relationships, especially as he seeks to grow in his faith. Proverbs 13:20 warns, "He who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm." The woman you’ve described does not appear to be walking in wisdom, and her influence could indeed lead him astray.

We must also address your own heart in this situation. It is natural to desire a godly spouse, but we must guard against envy, bitterness, or a critical spirit. James 3:16 warns, "For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed." Instead, let us focus on praying for Fermin’s protection, wisdom, and discernment. Pray that the Lord would open his eyes to the truth of this woman’s heart and that he would have the courage to walk away if this relationship is not honoring to God. Pray also for your own heart, that you would trust in God’s timing and plan for your life, as Psalm 37:4-5 says, "Also delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in him, and he will do this."

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of concern for Fermin. Lord, we ask that You would draw him closer to You and give him wisdom and discernment in his relationships. Protect him from influences that do not honor You, and reveal to him the truth about this woman’s heart. If this relationship is not Your will for him, give him the strength to walk away. Lord, we also pray for this woman, that You would soften her heart, convict her of any pride or sin, and lead her into a true relationship with You. Father, we ask that You would guard our sister’s heart as well. Help her to trust in Your timing and plan for her life. Give her patience and peace as she waits on You. Lord, we know that You are a God of redemption, and we pray that Fermin would experience Your healing and restoration in every area of his life. May he seek You above all else and find a spouse who will walk with him in faith, love, and holiness. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

In this situation, we encourage you to continue praying fervently for Fermin and to seek godly counsel from mature believers in your church. If the opportunity arises, you might gently share your concerns with him, but do so with humility and love, as Ephesians 4:15 instructs, "but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ." Above all, trust that God is at work, even when we cannot see it. His plans for you, and for Fermin, are good, and He will not fail you. Keep your eyes on Him, and He will direct your path.

Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind.
