Your burden to pray is encouraging and it reflects a right understanding of where our hope lies. You are not praying out of panic but out of faith in the living God, and that is exactly where prayer should begin.

Scripture reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood. People are not the true enemy. The darkness, deception, hatred and division that stir up violence have a spiritual source, and only the Lord can expose what is hidden, restrain what is evil and bring His light to overcome it. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has never overcome it, and it never will. That is true because Jesus Christ is the Light of the world, and the Father has revealed Himself in Him.

In times when reports of unrest, restrictions and threats to innocent people create anxiety, it helps to remember what the Bible teaches about fear. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. It is not a phobia but a reverence for God that causes us to hate evil and to depart from it. That reverence is the starting place and the sum of true understanding. When we forget the Lord, fear grows. When we remember Him and keep our minds stayed on Him, He keeps us in perfect peace because we trust in Him. Fear and faith cannot rule the heart at the same time. Where faith is allowed to take hold, fear must leave, and where fear is allowed to take over, faith departs. That is why we can do what is wise and prudent without being driven by fear of what others may do.

God also wants us to know His peace in a deeper way. When we make peace with God through the forgiveness of sins offered in Jesus Christ, the war with God ends and a new peace comes into our own hearts. That inner peace then makes it possible to live at peace with others. The wisdom that comes from above is peaceable, and those who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Part of seeking peace is to pray for the peace of the places where God has placed us and for the nations that weigh on your heart. In that peace we find peace, and we are to pray to the Lord for it.

So let us pray as you have asked, but with this biblical direction. Pray that the Lord would rebuke every work of darkness and make every scheme for destruction powerless according to His holy will. Pray for those in positions of responsibility, that God would give them wisdom to act with righteousness and restraint, to protect the innocent without abusing power. Pray for those who serve and protect others, for police, firefighters, medical workers and all who stand in danger, that God would give them courage, discernment and safety, remembering they also have families waiting for them. Pray especially for the vulnerable, for children, the elderly, the sick and all who depend on others for care, that the Lord would shelter and comfort them. And pray for those whose hearts are set on hatred and violence, not that God would bless their plans but that He would confront them with His truth, turn them from the path that leads to destruction, and bring them to repentance and to the mercy and saving grace found only in Jesus Christ.

Continue to call upon the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit with confidence. There is no true and lasting peace while a heart or a nation remains at war with God, and no promise of peace from men can replace it. Real peace comes only when we walk rightly before Him. May the Lord guide your prayers, guard your heart in His perfect peace, and cause His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the mighty and holy name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
