We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up the nation of Venezuela and all those affected by the recent earthquakes. Father, Your Word declares that You are the One who shakes the earth, and yet in Your mercy, You also bring comfort to those who mourn. We stand in agreement with Your Word, believing that even in these tremors, You are at work, calling nations to repentance and drawing hearts to Yourself.
Lord, we confess that the increasing frequency of these disasters aligns with Your prophetic Word in Matthew 24:7-8, where You foretold that nations would rise against nations, and there would be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. These are the beginning of sorrows, and we do not shrink back in fear but stand firm in faith, knowing that You have overcome the world (John 16:33). Yet we also recognize that these events are a call to repentance, for You are patient with us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
Father, we confess our sins and the sins of our nations before You, idolatry, corruption, injustice, and the turning away from Your truth. We echo the prayers of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Daniel, who interceded for their people with humility and contrition (Ezra 9:6-7, Nehemiah 1:6-7, Daniel 9:20). We ask for a spirit of repentance to sweep across Venezuela and every nation, that hearts would turn back to You. Forgive us, cleanse us, and restore us, O Lord, for if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
We cry out for mercy for the thousands who have perished, the countless injured, and the millions displaced. Lord, You are close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We ask for Your healing to rise like the sun, bringing restoration and hope (Malachi 4:2). Comfort those who grieve, strengthen the weary, and provide shelter for those without homes. Rebuild what has been destroyed, Lord, as You promise in Isaiah 58:12: "Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will raise up the age-old foundations; and you will be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the streets in which to dwell."
We pray for the laborers You are sending into this harvest. The fields are white, but the workers are few (Matthew 9:37-38). Raise up men and women filled with Your compassion, like sheep among wolves, wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16). Let the love of Christ compel them to go into the highways and hedges, compelling others to come to the Marriage Feast You have prepared (Luke 14:23). May they not only preach the Gospel but also meet the urgent needs of the people, becoming all things to all men so that by all means they might save some (1 Corinthians 9:22).
Father, we ask for protection over the vulnerable, women, children, and the elderly, who are often exploited in times of crisis. Guard them from human traffickers, corrupt officials, and those who would take advantage of their suffering. Your Word commands us to defend the weak and fatherless, to uphold the cause of the poor and oppressed (Psalm 82:3). Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream (Amos 5:24).
We also pray against the schemes of the evil one. You came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8), and we stand against every spirit of deception, fear, and destruction that seeks to hinder Your work. Protect the people from false prophets and cults that may arise in this time of desperation, for many will come in Your name, saying, "I am the Christ," and will lead many astray (Matthew 24:5). Let Your true Gospel shine brightly, and may many come to know You as their Savior and Lord.
Lord, we thank You for the churches and ministries that are already mobilizing to bring relief and the message of hope. Strengthen them, provide for their needs, and let their light shine in the darkness (Matthew 5:16). May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard the hearts and minds of those affected by this disaster (Philippians 4:7). And may the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, comfort them so that they may comfort others with the comfort they have received (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would use this tragedy to draw many to Yourself. Let the fear of the Lord deepen in the hearts of the people, for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). May they hate evil and cling to what is good (Romans 12:9). We pray for a great harvest of souls in Venezuela and beyond, that Your name would be glorified among the nations. For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
