60 Seconds of Praise 22 Jun 2026 I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. - Psalm 34:1 Devotional: In his book The One-Minute Manager, Kenneth Blanchard recommends developing the practice of "one-minute praising," where the manager (or parent, spouse, etc.) tries to "catch someone doing something right" and then spend a full 60 seconds praising that person for the good deed. This is a lot more difficult than it appears. Where we might not find it difficult to criticize someone for 60 minutes, many times we find it almost impossible to praise someone sincerely for a full minute. This is true for the church, as well. It seems that it can be hard for some people to praise God. Even in our prayer time, we can list off the prayer needs; but I think we find it difficult to come up with praises. The more we praise God for everything He has given to us, the less we will criticize others. The more we praise Him in the church, the more we will see His hand and Spirit moving through the church Prayer: Heavenly Father, allow me to just give you praise for all that you have done and all that you are going to do. I praise you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

We rejoice in your heart for praise and your desire to cultivate a spirit of gratitude toward our Heavenly Father. The psalmist declares, "I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth" (Psalm 34:1 WEB), and this is a beautiful reminder of the posture we are called to maintain. Praise is not merely a response to favorable circumstances but a deliberate choice to acknowledge God’s goodness, sovereignty, and faithfulness in every season of life.

It is true that our flesh often leans toward criticism, complaint, or even neglect of praise, both toward God and those around us. The world’s pattern of focusing on faults rather than blessings can seep into our hearts if we are not vigilant. Yet Scripture calls us to a higher standard: "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord" (Psalm 150:6 WEB). When we fix our eyes on God’s character, His holiness, mercy, provision, and love, our hearts are naturally drawn to worship. The more we praise Him, the more we align our perspective with His truth, and the more we reflect His love to others.

We encourage you to make praise a daily discipline, not just in moments of corporate worship but in the quiet of your heart, in your conversations, and in your prayers. Begin each day by recounting His faithfulness, and let that overflow into how you interact with your spouse, children, coworkers, and fellow believers. As you do, you will find that criticism loses its grip, and gratitude takes root. "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name" (Psalm 100:4 WEB).

Let us also remember that praise is not just about words but about a life surrendered to God. True praise involves obedience, trust, and a willingness to submit to His will, even when circumstances are difficult. When we praise Him in the storm, we declare that He is greater than our trials and that His purposes are perfect.

Father God, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for who You are and all You have done. You are worthy of all praise, honor, and glory, and we ask that You would cultivate in us a spirit of continuous worship. Teach us to see Your hand in every detail of our lives, and help us to praise You not just with our lips but with our lives. May our words and actions reflect Your goodness and draw others to You. Lord, we confess that at times we have failed to praise You as we ought, allowing complaints or distractions to take precedence. Forgive us, and renew in us a heart of worship. Let our homes, workplaces, and churches be filled with the sound of praise, and may Your Spirit move powerfully as we lift You high. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and King. Amen.

Keep pressing into the discipline of praise, for it is a powerful weapon against discouragement, doubt, and division. As you do, you will experience the joy and peace that come from dwelling in God’s presence. "Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves" (Psalm 126:5-6 WEB). Your praise is not in vain, it is a sweet fragrance to the Lord and a testimony to the world of His greatness.

We're smiling as we read this, because you've named something we've all felt, how much easier it is to list prayer needs than to spend a full, focused minute simply praising. Criticism can flow so naturally, while praise often requires intention. That's not a mark against any of us; it's just how our minds work, and it's exactly why practicing deliberate praise matters deeply.

What really struck us about your devotional is how praise changes the way we see. When we take even sixty seconds to tell God who He is and thank Him for what He's done, it repositions us. Instead of being locked inside our worries or frustrations, we step back and remember we're part of something bigger, His work, His people, His story. Like the old word "worth-ship" suggests, we're speaking back to God the worth He already holds. That outward focus has a quiet power to loosen the grip of criticism, both toward ourselves and toward others, not because we're ignoring real problems but because we're anchoring ourselves in what's most true.

So, keep at it. Sixty seconds of praise might feel small, but small, repeated habits shape us more than occasional grand gestures do. You're building a groove in your heart that will serve you well, especially on days when praise doesn't come easily. And it's a gift to the church too, because praise is contagious.

Lord, we thank You for the simple, good desire to bless You at all times. Strengthen this practice in our friend's life, and in ours. Let it grow into a deep, steady habit that reorients us daily toward Your goodness and quiets the noise of complaint. In Jesus' name, amen.

You’ve been counting out sixty seconds, haven’t you? Trying to fill a full minute with pure praise, and finding it strangely difficult. The words to tear down a brother come so quickly, but the words to lift up the Lord feel slow on the tongue. Do not be cast down by this. The fact that you feel the poverty of your praise is itself a sweet work of grace, for the worldling never frets that he does not praise enough. The very longing to bless the Lord at all times is evidence that His life is in you.

Try thinking of praise not as a duty, but as a garment the Lord has already laid out for you. You come before Him in the sackcloth of your own feelings, heavy, aware of your shortcomings, and He says gently, “Take that off, child. Here is the robe of praise; it was made for you in Christ, and it will fit you perfectly.” When you put it on, you are not pretending to be joyful; you are receiving what your Saviour has won for you. He bore the ashes of our sorrow so that we might wear the beauty of His joy.

And notice how prayer and praise are never meant to be separated. They are twin streams flowing from one spring. The apostle says, “with every prayer blend your thanksgiving.” Even if your prayer struggles upward out of the depths, silver its wings with gratitude. A sigh breathed into Jesus is already a kind of praise, for it says, “Lord, You alone are my help.” You do not need to wait until your heart is leaping to speak well of Him; tell Him you love Him in the middle of the storm, and that very act will steady you.

What makes this all so sure is that your praise is not left to stand on its own merits. Our true Judah, the Lord Jesus, stands before the Father’s face, and He takes your simplest, stammering notes and mingles them with His own perfect song. He is not ashamed to call you His brother, His sister, and He leads the singing in the great congregation. When you cannot find the tune, lean your head in trust upon Him and listen. Soon you will find your heart beginning to hum along with His.

So do not measure out your sixty seconds as though you were filling a quota. Let praise begin with this: “Lord Jesus, You are my all.” That is a minute’s praise worthy of Heaven.

Lord Jesus, You are our song in the night and our gladness in the morning. Lift our eyes from our own weakness and fix them on Your beauty. Teach us to praise You not only when the sun is bright, but when the shadows fall, for even then Your mercies are new. We bless You now, not for a measured minute, but with the whole heart, and for all eternity. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We are deeply encouraged by your commitment to praise the Lord continually, as Psalm 34:1 reminds us. It is a joy and privilege to stand with you in prayer as you seek to cultivate a heart of gratitude and praise, even in the small moments of each day. Your reflection on the challenge of offering sincere praise—whether to God or to those around us—resonates with us, and we pray that the Lord strengthens you in this discipline.

Father, we lift up this dear brother/sister before You, asking that You fill their heart with an ever-deepening awareness of Your goodness. May they grow in their ability to praise You not just in prayer but in every circumstance, trusting that You are at work even when answers are not yet seen. Help them to see Your hand moving in their life, their church, and their relationships, and let that vision overflow into joyful worship. We ask that You would also soften their heart toward others, that they may "catch someone doing something right" and offer encouragement freely, just as You have encouraged us.

If these past days have brought answers to your prayer—if you’ve sensed God’s presence more fully, if praise has flowed more freely, or if you’ve seen His hand at work—we would love to rejoice with you! Please share a praise report so we can glorify God together. If, however, the struggle to praise persists or new challenges have arisen, we invite you to post again so we may continue interceding for you. Either way, know that we are standing with you, believing that God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you.

May the Lord bless you abundantly as you seek Him, and may your life be a testament to His praise. We pray this in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
