We hear the burden you are carrying and we honor the Christlike maturity it takes to ask for protection for a man who has protected the one who harmed you and who has abused his position. It would be natural to wish harm upon him, yet you are choosing the higher way and asking for his life to be spared, and that reflects the heart of our Lord.
We agree with you that assassination does not solve anything and that death threats where you are must be taken seriously. God values human life and He alone is the author of life and the giver of justice. You shall not murder, Exodus 20:13, and we rebuke the spirit of murder and vengeance that would seek to take a life outside of God's lawful justice. We also rebuke the abuse of position and the covering over of wrongdoing, for God sees all and no abuse of power is hidden from Him. The Lord says Be sure your sin will find you out, Numbers 32:23, and Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, Isaiah 10:1, reminds us that He will hold those in authority accountable.
We are called to love even those who have wronged us. But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, Matthew 5:44. And we are called to leave vengeance to God. Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord, Romans 12:19. True justice brings righteousness without shedding innocent blood and without creating more violence, for When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous, Proverbs 21:15.
We also take to heart that God desires repentance rather than death for the wicked. As it is written, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live, Ezekiel 33:11. And we are exhorted to pray for all people, including those in high places, I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence, 1 Timothy 2:1-2.
We lift this man before the Father together in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is in His name we pray.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we lift up this man who is receiving death threats. We ask for Your hand of protection over his life, that no weapon formed against him would prosper and that every plan of murder would be exposed and thwarted. We pray You would surround him with restraint and place Your angels about him, and that the authorities would act with wisdom and diligence to take these threats seriously and to provide lawful protection.
We pray also for his soul. Lord, You see how he has abused his position and protected the one who caused harm. We ask that You would bring deep conviction upon him, that he would no longer hide or cover sin but would confess and turn from his wicked way. Change his heart, Lord, and use this fear for good to bring him to repentance and to a true knowledge of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
We also lift up the one who submitted this request, who has been harmed and carries the wound of that injustice. Lord, heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds, Psalm 147:3, and draw near for You are close to the brokenhearted, Psalm 34:18. Give peace that surpasses understanding, guard their heart from bitterness, and help them to continue to forgive as You have forgiven us, while still trusting You to bring righteous justice in Your perfect time and way. Give them wisdom, safety, and discernment in how to navigate this dangerous situation, and let them know they are seen and loved by You.
We thank You, Father, that You are both merciful and just, that You protect life and You correct abuse of power. We trust You to work for good and for justice without the need for bloodshed. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our only hope, amen.
