Disciple of Prayer
Hi my brother needs prayer because he's stubborn and thinks he deserves the very very best job right now when he's been on disability for like 3 years or something. He needs a job tho. He needs a miracle basically. Something with dignity. Thank you

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts for your brother, lifting him up in prayer and seeking God’s wisdom and intervention in his life. It is clear that he is in a difficult season, and we know the Lord sees his struggles and desires to provide for him in ways that honor Him.

First, we must address the pride and stubbornness that may be hindering his progress. Scripture warns us in Proverbs 16:18, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." It is not wrong to desire a good job or to seek dignity in work, but when our expectations become demands, when we believe we deserve something apart from God’s timing and provision, we set ourselves up for frustration and discontent. We must gently but firmly rebuke this mindset, for it is not of God. The Lord calls us to humility, to trust in His provision, and to be faithful in whatever season we are in. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Your brother’s reliance on disability for three years may have created a sense of complacency or entitlement, and we must pray that the Holy Spirit convicts him of any ungodly attitudes. Work is a gift from God, and even if it is not the "perfect" job, it is an opportunity to glorify Him through diligence and faithfulness. Colossians 3:23 reminds us, "And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." We must encourage him to seek work not just for his own gain, but as an act of worship to the Lord.

We also recognize that his need for a job is urgent, and we stand in faith with you, believing that God can indeed perform a miracle in his life. The Lord is not limited by circumstances, and He can open doors that no man can shut (Revelation 3:8). But we must also pray that your brother’s heart is prepared to receive God’s provision. If he is holding onto bitterness, pride, or unrealistic expectations, those things may be blocking the blessings God wants to pour out. Let us pray that he surrenders his will to the Lord’s perfect plan.

Father God, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this brother who is in need of Your intervention. Lord, we ask that You break the spirit of pride and stubbornness in his heart. Soften his spirit to receive Your correction and guidance. Help him to see that every good and perfect gift comes from You (James 1:17), and that Your timing is always best.

We pray for a miracle in his job search, Lord. Open doors of opportunity that align with Your will for his life. Provide him with work that brings dignity, purpose, and provision, not just for his needs but for Your glory. Give him the strength and courage to step out in faith, even if the first step is small. Help him to trust in You, knowing that You are his Provider (Philippians 4:19).

We rebuke any spirit of laziness, entitlement, or despair that may be holding him back. We declare that he is a child of the Most High God, created for good works (Ephesians 2:10), and that You have a plan for his life. Fill him with hope and perseverance as he seeks You first in all things.

Lord, if there is any unforgiveness, bitterness, or unconfessed sin in his heart, reveal it to him and lead him to repentance. Cleanse him and renew his mind so that he may walk in the fullness of Your blessings. Surround him with godly counsel and encouragement, and let him see Your hand at work in his life.

We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your faithfulness and believe that You will move on his behalf. May he come to know You more deeply through this trial, and may his testimony bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

To your brother, we say this: The Lord sees your struggle, and He has not forgotten you. But He also calls you to surrender your plans, your pride, and your expectations to Him. Humble yourself before the Lord, and He will lift you up (James 4:10). Seek Him first, and He will guide your steps. Do not despise small beginnings, faithfulness in little leads to much (Luke 16:10). Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). He is faithful, and He will provide. Keep your eyes on Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9).

It’s clear you care deeply about your brother, you want to see him in a job that restores his dignity, not just any job. That kind of hope for him is a gift. His stubbornness might be frustrating, but sometimes that same stubbornness is just a wounded form of hope trying to hold on. We can pray that God reshapes it into genuine expectation instead of pride.

One concrete step that might help: many communities have vocational rehabilitation programs specifically designed to help people with disabilities re-enter the workforce with supports and an eye toward meaningful work. Even just exploring those options together, maybe helping him schedule an information call, could plant a seed of movement without a fight over his expectations. It gives him a face-saving path to explore the possible, not just the imaginary best.

In the meantime, we can ask God to soften his heart without crushing it, and to give you patience as you walk alongside him. You’re not ignoring his real needs by refusing to endorse unrealistic demands; you’re loving him in a way that keeps both grace and reality in view.

Let’s pray:

Father, thank you for this sister’s love for her brother. You know the man you made him to be, and you see his longing for dignity and purpose. We ask that you calm his heart, quiet the restlessness that makes him demand the very best, and open his eyes to the small doors you are placing before him. Provide a job that fits his capacities, a place where he can serve with dignity and hope. Give his sister wisdom, gentle words, and steady patience. In Jesus’ name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

A brother’s stubbornness is no small burden, yet it is no barrier to the throne of grace. The Lord who broke the pride of Job and brought him twice as much in the end is the same God who can humble and then uplift your kin. Let us not charge God foolishly by dictating what a “very best” job must look like; rather let us kneel and worship, even in the ashes of loss and disability, and trust the One who shows Himself grand in emergencies and spontaneous in mercy.

You ask for a miracle, good. We serve a Miracle Worker whose word alone casts out devils and whose touch straightens the bent. He needs no prompting; He sees the need. Pray that your brother’s stubborn heart be subdued, not by thunder, but by a view of the bleeding Savior. The dignity he craves will only be found when he yields his point unreservedly, confessing, “I am wrong, God must be right.” Then, as with Job, the latter end may be fresher than the former. Meanwhile, consider the miracle of the loaves in your own life, remember past deliverances, and be not afraid. Bring this request boldly, but leave the shaping of the answer to Him whose power is not dependent on anything in man.
