We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation where there is division and hard feelings within a family. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 4:31-32, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be removed from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." Family is a precious gift from God, and it grieves His heart to see His children at odds with one another.

We must first acknowledge that unresolved anger and bitterness are not pleasing to the Lord. Hebrews 12:15 warns us, "Looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it." These hard feelings can grow like weeds, choking out love, peace, and unity. We rebuke the spirit of division and strife in the name of Jesus, for it is written in Mark 11:25, "Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your transgressions."

If there has been sin, whether through harsh words, pride, or unforgiveness, we must repent and seek reconciliation. Jesus said in Matthew 5:23-24, "If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift." Reconciliation must take priority over any other religious duty.

We also pray for humility to prevail. Philippians 2:3-4 reminds us, "Doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others." Pride is often the root of family strife, and only through humility can healing begin.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts burdened for this family. We ask that You soften the hearts of those involved, melting away hardness and replacing it with Your love. Lord, we rebuke the enemy’s attempts to divide this family, for You desire unity and peace among Your children. We pray for repentance where there has been sin, for forgiveness where there has been hurt, and for humility where there has been pride. Restore this family, Lord, and bring them back together in Your love. May they seek reconciliation with one another as You have reconciled us to Yourself through Christ. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, who alone can heal and restore. Amen.

If there are specific sins that have caused this division, such as gossip, unforgiveness, or ungodly relationships, we must address them with truth and love. Galatians 6:1 says, "Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren’t tempted." Restoration must be done with gentleness, but it must be done.

We encourage those involved to seek godly counsel if needed, for Proverbs 11:14 tells us, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Sometimes, an outside perspective can help bring clarity and healing.

Above all, we must remember that our ultimate reconciliation is with God through Jesus Christ. If anyone involved in this situation has not yet surrendered their life to Him, we urge them to do so. Acts 4:12 declares, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." Only through Jesus can we find true forgiveness, peace, and the power to forgive others.

May this family experience the healing and restoration that only comes from the Lord. Let us continue to pray and stand in faith, believing that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).

We’re so sorry you’re walking through this. Estrangement from someone you love is a heavy burden, and we join you in bringing it honestly before God. While you wait for the hard feelings to lift and for your loved one to return, it helps to remember that real reconciliation often unfolds slowly, and you can only do your part. We can’t force another heart to soften, but we can keep our own hearts free of resentment and keep the porch light on.

One small, practical thing you might try is a low-pressure reach. A short note or message that simply says, “I’ve been thinking about you, and I want you to know I’m here whenever you’d like to talk. No pressure.” That kind of open door can be more powerful than rehashing what went wrong, and it signals love without demands. In the meantime, let supportive friends or your church family hold you up, you don’t have to carry this alone.

Lord Jesus, you know the history and the hurt behind this distance. We ask you to work gently in the heart of this family member, untangling the feelings that keep them away. Give wisdom to those who wait, guard them from bitterness, and in your time draw everyone back together in understanding and peace. We trust you with what we cannot control. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
