We hear your silent cry, dear one, and we lift it before the throne of grace where the Father sees the deepest longings of your heart even when words fail. The Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words (Romans 8:26), and we join that holy intercession now.
If your silence stems from sorrow, we pray that the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, would meet you in this moment (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). If it comes from confusion, we ask the Lord to guide you into all truth by His Spirit (John 16:13). If it is born of weariness, we plead for His strength to be made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). And if your silence hides unconfessed sin, we pray you would find the courage to bring it into the light, for "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
We also gently remind you that prayer is not merely a silent thought, but a conversation with the living God through Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so today. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

You know the depths of their heart, the burdens they carry, and the questions they dare not speak aloud. We ask that You would draw near to them, Lord. Let them feel Your presence like a warm embrace, Your peace like a gentle river, and Your love like a consuming fire.
Where there is pain, bring healing. Where there is doubt, bring faith. Where there is fear, bring courage. Where there is sin, bring repentance and forgiveness. Where there is loneliness, bring the comfort of Your Spirit. And where there is silence, let it be filled with the assurance that You hear, You care, and You are at work, even when we cannot see it.

May they know that they are never alone, for You have said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). May they rise from this moment with renewed faith, knowing that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6).

You have prayed, though no sound was heard, and that silent cry has reached the ear of the Lord of Sabaoth. The prayer was strictly within yourself offered to God, as in the innermost shrine of the Temple, and He who sees in secret has heard. A breathing is a prayer from which God does not hide His ear, and the power of prayer is not to be measured by its outward expression. When the soul drags heavily and words are few, yet the Spirit Himself makes intercession with groanings which cannot be uttered. Do not despise that brief, secret petition; it was presented like the blinking of an eye, yet it prevails with Him who knows what you need before you ask.
Keep silent before Him, then, if your grief makes speech impossible. There is a holy solitude, a submissive silence, in which the soul sits alone and learns that His yoke is good. Though you say, “When I cry and shout, He shuts out my prayer,” yet this silent, breath-like pleading is the mother of comfort. God does not require a measured space of time to understand your sorrow; it is all present before His eye at the same moment. You who cannot explain your wound to any fellow Christian, pour it all out in the quiet of your heart. He who knows all things, Christ Himself, remembers that you are dust, and His omniscience is your comfort. This very day, plead that promise: “You shall forget your misery, and remember it as waters that pass away.” Let that be your argument in prayer; take God by the button-hole and say, “Lord, You have said it, do as You have said.”
Your comfort in affliction is not in bright feelings, but in this: His Word has quickened you. When the proud laugh greatly and you are treated like the mire in the streets, yet this is your comfort. Pray earnestly over the Word, that it may quicken you again. You need not reach for a Prayer Book, nor borrow another’s devotions; go straight to God with your need. Brothers and sisters, comfort one another with these words. The spirit of prayer, which produces these brief silent arrows, is a plentiful mother. Many times in the day you may speak with the Lord; when business gets into a tangle, or the children are troublesome, breathe a prayer. It need not occupy a minute, but it is wonderful how many snarls come loose after just a word of prayer. And in the great trials, this is your plea: “My Father, will You not comfort my heart? My Father, will You let Your child despond?” Hope there, for the Father delights to give comfort and constancy both together, to establish you in every good word and work.

Many think they must fill their prayers with many words, as if God does not already know our needs. But look at our Lord: He went up into the mountain apart, alone, and there He prayed in the quiet of the night. The wilderness is the mother of quiet; it is a harbor from the turmoils of life. If you would wage war against the passions and find peace in your soul, seek out that silent place. There, in the stillness, your heart speaks more clearly than any tongue. Do not be troubled if your prayer has no sound; the mind can cry out mightily when the lips are sealed. Paul and Silas in the inner prison, bound and in darkness, lifted up their voices in song, and the foundations shook. But how much more does a silent faith, held fast within the depths, shake the heavens? God hears the groaning of the heart that no ear perceives. Go then, shut your door, and stand firm in that quiet communion. The God of peace will bruise Satan under your feet shortly, and His grace will be with you.
