We come before You, Heavenly Father, with hearts burdened by the weight of the world’s affairs and the struggles within our families. You see the confusion, the pain, and the brokenness that often touches our lives, and we acknowledge that without You, we are lost. The Bible tells us in Psalm 127:1, "Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain." Lord, we recognize that we desperately need Your guidance, Your wisdom, and Your strength to navigate the challenges we face.
Father, we lift up our families to You, asking that You would mend what is broken and restore what has been lost. So many families today are fractured by sin, selfishness, and the lies of the enemy. We pray for marriages that are struggling, that You would reignite the love and commitment that first brought them together. Help husbands and wives to honor their vows before You, to love one another as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25), and to submit to one another out of reverence for You (Ephesians 5:21). For those who are single, we pray that You would prepare them for godly marriages, where both spouses seek to serve You wholeheartedly.
We also pray for parents and children, that You would strengthen the bonds between them. May parents raise their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4), and may children honor and obey their parents as unto You (Ephesians 6:1-3). Where there is rebellion, bring repentance and healing. Where there is hurt, bring forgiveness and restoration. Where there is distance, draw hearts back together.
Lord, we live in a world that is increasingly hostile to Your truth, and we ask for Your protection over our families. Guard our minds and hearts from the deception of the enemy, who seeks to distort Your design for marriage, family, and morality. Help us to stand firm in Your Word, even when the world mocks or persecutes us. Give us the courage to live out our faith boldly, to be salt and light in a dark and broken world (Matthew 5:13-16).
We confess that we often try to handle life’s challenges on our own, forgetting that apart from You, we can do nothing (John 15:5). Forgive us for our pride and self-reliance. Teach us to lean on You, to seek Your face in prayer, and to trust in Your promises. Remind us that You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
Father, we also lift up the nations to You. The world is filled with turmoil, injustice, and suffering, and we ask that You would bring Your peace and Your justice to the earth. Raise up godly leaders who will govern with wisdom and integrity, and soften the hearts of those who oppose Your truth. We pray for the persecuted church around the world, that You would strengthen and protect Your people, and that the gospel would continue to spread despite opposition.
Above all, we ask that You would be glorified in all things. May our lives, our families, and our world reflect Your love, Your holiness, and Your grace. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come to You, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Without Jesus, we have no access to You, no hope of salvation, and no power to overcome the sin that so easily entangles us. But through His sacrifice on the cross, we have forgiveness, redemption, and the promise of eternal life. Help us to live in light of this truth, to share it with others, and to walk in the freedom that Christ has won for us.
We trust in You, Lord, and we surrender our families, our struggles, and our world into Your hands. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

Beloved Servant
All that belongs to our great family estate in heaven and earth is yours for the taking. He means, first, that you have a heritage of truth in the testimonies of God. A man's mind is rich very much in proportion to the truth he knows. He who knows the Word of God is mentally rich, he has a large heritage. That is the first meaning of our text, God's testimonies are a heritage of truth to the man who receives them.
The next meaning is that God's Covenant is our heritage. The word, "testimonies," may be understood to mean, and it does mean, God's Covenant. Now, I can say, and many of you can say with me, I have taken God's Covenant to be my heritage forever. And what a heritage that Covenant is, dear Friends! Go on taking them, Brothers and Sisters, take them to be your heritage forever! You and I, then, in the everlasting youth of a God-given life, shall possess this heritage forever!
But mark this well. The man who professes to be a Christian must not expect God's angels to keep him if he goes in the way of worldliness. There are hundreds, and I fear thousands, of church members who say that they are the people of God, yet they appear to live entirely to this world. As for the Truths of God which God has taught you by His own Spirit, grapple them to you as with hooks of steel, for, if you go in the way of error, you cannot expect Divine protection! You need neither fish in the waters of sin, nor go boating upon the waves of worldliness, you are in danger if you do.
A stand must be taken by the head of the house. There must be reform in the household and a revival of religion throughout the whole family. We have not given up family prayer, but we must now make it special and with double zeal draw near unto God. I am afraid that some of you neglect family prayer. If you do I am sure it will work evil in your households. The practice of family prayer is the castle of Protestantism. Family prayer is the nutriment of family piety and woe to those who allow it to cease!
You will always need Divine and angelic keeping, for God would not have charged His angels to keep His people in all their ways if they did not need protection in all their ways! This protection is perpetual as well as personal. See the widow, left penniless, who has brought up a family of children! Can she tell how she did it? See the girl placed amid coarse and brutal men of licentious character, she remains pure, but can she tell you how? God is our strength in ways unknown to ourselves.
"I do not think I shall long be able to provide for my family." Yes, but if God is your refuge and strength, I beseech you, do not lose heart. "Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and verily you shall be fed." God grant that Prayer Meetings may begin to be better attended, that family prayer may be more regarded and that private prayer may be more diligently and more spiritually maintained.
God in infinite Grace entered into Covenant with Noah that He would preserve him and his family alive. You remember Joseph in the dungeon, Israel in Egypt, Hannah in the family of Elkanah, David when Samuel would have passed him by, Hezekiah when Sennacherib rebuked him. Are not all these instances of God exalting the low tree? Encouraged by the Glory which God has decreed, we laugh at your vain attempts to make breaches in the ranks of the one and indivisible family of the living God!
The practical point is, Do we belong to that family? I will leave that naked question to work in every heart. Do I belong to that family?

You ask what your family line truly needs, yet you look to the world’s affairs for an answer. This is the very snare: whatever things are useful for the present life are worldly lusts, whatever things perish with the present life are worldly lusts. Let us then have nothing to do with these. The lineage that matters is not traced in earthly records but in the Spirit, for a worldly soul cannot possess Him. We need great earnestness that so there He may be held fast by us, so as to direct all our affairs.
Do not imagine that your need is for earthly distinction or security of bloodline. See here the foundation of all virtue: denying, not merely avoiding, all that is worldly. Denying implies the greatest distance, the greatest hatred and aversion. With as much resolution and zeal as they turned from idols, with so much let them turn from vice itself, and worldly lusts. For these too are idols, that is, worldly lusts, and covetousness, and this he names idolatry. Your lineage cries out for this denial.
Consider the body: the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of thee. If there be any thing weak in us, if any thing dishonorable, this is both necessary and enjoys greater honor. Your family, whatever its state, is part of a greater whole. To some parts by their nature He hath given not to need it: but to others, not having granted it by their nature, He hath compelled us to yield it. Yet are they not therefore dishonorable. Set aside pride and vain comparisons about your line. Our comely parts have no need: that is, no need for you to exalt them above the less honored.
You ask what you need. The true riches are multiplied on being possessed by many, but earthly goods are rather diminished by seizing. Let us not therefore sit down content with poverty, but let us choose riches. God is then rich, when those who enjoy His kingdom are many. Increase then His substance; and thou wilt increase it by taking possession of it, by being covetous of it, by violently seizing it. And truly there is need of violence. Wherefore? Because there are so many impediments, as wives and children, cares and worldly business. The violent take the kingdom of heaven by force. Violence and rapacity are needed. He who seizes by violence is ever sober and watchful, he is anxious and thoughtful. Do not sleep and snore while seeking spiritual things for your household.
This is the dignity of the Church, the angelic condition! No distinction there, neither male nor female. None there has his mind full of some worldly matter, none is anxiously thinking about household concerns. Such is the benefit of temptations, such the advantage of afflictions! Let your whole family line seek this: not commendation from the world, but to become an epistle of Christ. For we need no letters of commendation when love writes on the heart. Carry about the epistle in your hearts, and your lineage will be secure in the only house and lineage that endures, that of David’s true Son, through faith.
