Dear Heidi,   
 

One of my favorite hymns begins with these words: "I'm pressing on the upward way. New heights I'm gaining everyday. Still praying as I'm onward bound, 'Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.'" I pray that you have the same desire as the hymn writer-to make continual progress on your spiritual journey with Christ. In fact, let me suggest several ways in which we should aim for higher ground this year:
 
H - Helping those in need. In the book of Daniel, we learn about four young men who, though captives in a foreign land, exercise such wisdom and understanding while they are serving, that they are all placed in positions of leadership.
 
I - Identifying ourselves as servants of God. Like Daniel and his three Hebrew colleagues, we should use whatever station we hold in life to let those around us know that our love and allegiance belong to the Lord.
 
G - Growing in giftedness. Have you discovered how you've been "SHAPED" to serve God and others? Let this be a year when you further explore and develop your: Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences.
 
H - Hearing the voice of the Lord. God speaks to us in several ways, primarily through His Word and by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we would do well to listen more attentively to His voice.
 
E - Engaging in successful spiritual warfare. The forces of evil seem to have intensified their assault on right and righteousness these days. But if we heed the exhortation of the apostle Paul in Ephesians chapter 6 by putting on the whole armor of God, we will defeat the devil and walk in perpetual victory!
 
R - Rejoicing always. There's power in praise! Therefore, we should aspire to bless the Lord at all times.

Have you ever thought about the teaching of taking no thought for your life? It's amazing to take no thought for your life and wait on the Lord to put something on your heart to do. I have had physical and emotional pains vanish singing in myself humming take no thought for my life, I give it all to you Lord.
