Bless pastors first to war against prayerlessness in our own lives and give faith to pray, seek with all our heart to hear, listen and understand, Matt 16:17, what You are speaking to each one, Jn 16:13. Grant YOUR MANIFEST HOLY PRESENCE, faith, repentance, salvation, knowledge of the forgiveness of sins and newness of life -- give vision, Prov 29:18, by The Holy Spirit. We join together with you in this burden for the church and for those who lead her, and we agree with you in prayer for a mighty work of the Holy Spirit in every congregation.

We hear your heart for pastors and preachers to be men who pray and study and live what they preach, and this is exactly the charge given in Scripture. We are reminded of 2 Tim 4:1-2 where Paul charges Timothy before God and the Lord Jesus Christ to preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all patience and teaching. And we remember 1 Tim 4:16 to pay attention to yourself and to your teaching, continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. We pray that every pastor would take this seriously, that they would war against prayerlessness and give themselves to the Word and to intercession for the flock, that their lives would be an example of holiness and devotion.

We also lift up the sobering need you mention for the salvation of lost pastors and for those who are backslidden, lukewarm, or merely religious in the church. The Lord knows those who are His, and He desires that none would perish but that all would come to repentance as it says in 2 Pet 3:9. We pray that any shepherd who has never truly been born again would be convicted by the Holy Spirit, who will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment in John 16:8, and would come to true repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone. For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved except Jesus, as we see in Acts 4:12, and it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We agree with you for worship in spirit and truth, for that is what the Father seeks. Jesus said in John 4:24 that God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. We ask the Father to pour out the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in Eph 1:17 upon every gathering, that He would open minds to understand the Scriptures as in Luke 24:45, and that the anointing which we have from the Holy One in 1 John 2:20 would teach and empower real Bible preaching and teaching. We pray for accuracy in handling the Word, that every teacher would be diligent to present himself approved by God, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, correctly handling the word of truth in 2 Tim 2:15, and not tickling ears but faithfully declaring the whole counsel of God even when it is not popular.

We pray too for the hearers, for families, members and visitors, that the Father would draw them by His grace, for no one can come to Jesus unless the Father who sent Him draws him in John 6:44. We ask that they would receive the implanted word with humility which is able to save their souls in James 1:21, and that faith would come by hearing the message preached in Rom 10:17, through the revelation of Christ given by the Father, not by flesh and blood as in Matt 16:17. We pray they would not forsake the assembling of themselves together as in Heb 10:25, but would hunger for the Word like newborn babies craving pure spiritual milk in 1 Pet 2:2, and would continue steadfastly as the early church did in Acts 2:42.

We bring before the Lord your prayer for protection and warning, that He would give His angels charge over His people to guard them in all their ways in Ps 91:11, and that as He warned Israel through Elisha of the plans of the enemy in 2 Kings 6:8-12, He would give discernment to His people today to escape deception, false teachers who have a form of godliness but deny its power in 2 Tim 3:5, and deceivers who grow worse and worse in 2 Tim 3:13. We ask that He would keep His people from distraction as in 2 Cor 11:3, from deception in Matt 24:4, from temptation in Luke 11:4, and deliver them from the evil one as Jesus prayed in John 17:15, for the Lord is faithful who will establish and guard from the evil one in 2 Thess 3:3.

Father, we thank You that You are our ever present help as in Ps 46:1 and that You are near to all who call upon You in truth as in Deut 4:7. We thank You for the message of Your Anointed One crucified for our sins, and we claim Gal 2:20 that we have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer we who live but Christ living in us. Grant Your manifest holy presence, give vision where there is no vision the people perish in Prov 29:18, and heal the lack of knowledge that destroys people in Hos 4:6. Give repentance and the knowledge of the forgiveness of sins and newness of life. Open doors for the Word to go forth and for households to be saved as in Acts 16:31, for You desire all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth in 1 Tim 2:4. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus in Phil 4:7.

We ask all this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is the Amen, the faithful and true witness in Rev 3:14, and in whom all the promises of God are Yes in 2 Cor 1:20. Amen.

Thank you for bringing this burden before the Lord so faithfully. We can hear how much you care for pastors and for the whole church family, longing for leaders to stay rooted in prayer and in the Word, for those who are lost or grown cold to be drawn back to Jesus, and for worship that is honest and led by the Holy Spirit. That is a beautiful and heavy burden to carry.

We want to encourage you that God delights in this kind of prayer that seeks His presence and the salvation of others. Even when answers feel slow, He is at work as we keep seeking Him.

One steady way to carry this without growing weary is to keep it simple and personal. Perhaps choose a few pastors or leaders by name each week and pray for them by name, and if you have opportunity, send a brief note of encouragement to let them know you are praying for their time with the Lord and for their families. That kind of quiet support often means more than we realize.

Father, we lift up pastors and teachers to You and ask You to strengthen them in prayer and in Your Word, to guard them and their households, and to draw to Yourself all who are still far from You. Bring Your presence into our gatherings and help us worship You in truth, and keep us faithful in gathering together. We trust this to You in Jesus name, amen.

Your prayer is a most needful one and it has refreshed my own heart to read it, for it shows a deep concern for the glory of God in His house and for the souls of men both within and without the walls of the church.

I join you in entreating the Lord for those who stand in the pulpit and have charge of souls. What a charge is laid upon them in 2 Timothy 4, to preach the word, to be instant in season and out of season, to reprove, rebuke and exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. Such work cannot be done in the strength of nature, nor by good intentions and strong resolutions. As I have often said, the Holy Spirit is forgotten to our great loss. Without Him, even the atonement which Jesus wrought can never be applied to the heart, and the preacher has no keys to unlock the hearts of men unless the Spirit of God speaks through him. Let us pray then that pastors and preachers may be men of prayer and of the Word, that they may watch over their own lives and doctrine according to 1 Timothy 4:16, so that they may both save themselves and those that hear them. For without the Holy Spirit we are but fraudulent professors, and the spirit of prayer and the spirit of zeal may depart and leave a congregation to barrenness.

You do well to pray for the salvation of lost pastors and for all who hear the Word, whether they be lost, backslidden, lukewarm or devoted. The truth of God's salvation is no shadow and no myth. It is a great reality. There is a real fall, a real Saviour, a real heaven and a real hell. The Holy Spirit alone awakens the mind and gives that new life by which a man is born again from above. He convicts of sin, He opens the understanding that we might understand the Scriptures as He did for the disciples on the road, and He teaches us all truth, for He is the Spirit of Truth. He never teaches anything but the truth of God, unalloyed and divinely effective. Let us therefore pray that the Word may be rightly divided according to 2 Timothy 2:15, not with the wisdom of words but in the power and demonstration of the Spirit, that faith may come by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

You plead for worship in spirit and in truth according to John 4:24, and for the anointing of the Holy One. This is the very need of the hour. Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. He has condescended to make the narrow heart of man His palace, and He is the Spirit of grace and of supplications. Prayer without the Spirit is as a bird without wings. Even the desire to pray must be wrought in us by Him. So we will pray that the Lord will give His servants and His people a hunger for the sincere milk of the Word as newborn babes, and a spirit of revelation in the knowledge of Him, that flesh and blood may not be our teacher but our Father which is in heaven, who reveals His Son.

I join you also in praying for safety and for watchfulness, that as Elisha warned the king of Israel, so the Lord would warn and keep His people from the snares of the evil one, from distraction and deception, from false teachers and from the love of the world which draws so many from the assembling of themselves together. How needful is Hebrews 10:25 in this age when sports and shows and weariness keep men from the house of God. May the Lord draw families by His own sovereign grace, for no man can come except the Father which hath sent Christ draw him. May He grant repentance and faith, the forgiveness of sins and newness of life, and keep His people from temptation and deliver them from evil.

Let us go to the throne together now. O God, in the multitude of Your mercy hear us, in the truth of Your salvation. Pour out Your Holy Spirit upon pastors and upon hearers. Take not Your Holy Spirit from us. Awaken those who are dead in sin, restore those who have wandered, quicken the lukewarm and establish the devoted. Give to Your ministers a life of prayer, diligence in study, soundness in doctrine and love in visiting the flock, whether in the larger assembly or in the house churches. Give to families and visitors humility to receive with meekness the engrafted Word which is able to save the soul, and grant them freedom to worship You in spirit and in truth. You will that none should perish but that all should come to repentance and to the knowledge of the truth through Jesus Christ Your Son, our only Saviour. Grant that when we ask according to Your will, we may know that You hear us. Keep us all in Your manifest presence, give us vision lest we perish, and protect us from the evil one. All this we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our crucified and risen Lord, in whom all the promises of God are yea and amen.
