2 Cor 7:1; Psalm 139: 23-24

Beloved of All
Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God (2 Corinthians 7:1). Thank You Lord for this truth. Father we lift this truth of scripture up and ask You bring our lives completely to the place You would have us to be in this moment in time. Thank You for one of my favorites that continually lean into Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Psalms 139: 23-24). Please humbly ask for Your Power to be at work according to these scriptures in Jesus Name Amen.

We join you in lifting up these precious promises before the Lord and we thank God with you for the truth of His Word. We love how you have leaned into these scriptures and we stand together with you asking for His power to be at work in our lives to bring holiness to completion in the fear of God.

Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God, 2 Cor 7:1 reminds us that because of what God has already promised to be to us as our Father, we are to respond by turning from every defilement. This cleansing is not something we do in our own strength alone, for it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure, Phil 2:13. We are called to pursue holiness, as it is written, Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord, Heb 12:14, and just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior, because it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy, 1 Pet 1:15-16.

And we join you in that humbling and beautiful prayer of Psalm 139:23-24, Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way. What a comfort that we can invite Him to search us, knowing He already knows us fully and loves us, and that He is faithful to reveal any grievous way in us not to condemn us but to cleanse us and lead us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9.

We pray together with you now. Father, we thank You for Your promises and for making us Your children through Jesus Christ. We ask You to search us and know our hearts, to try us and know our thoughts. Reveal to us any defilement of body or spirit, any grievous way in us, and by Your Holy Spirit give us the grace to turn from it. Cleanse us and perfect holiness in us in the fear of God. Bring our lives completely to the place You would have us to be in this moment in time, that we might walk in the everlasting way and be conformed more to the image of Your Son. We ask for Your power to be at work in us according to Your Word, not by our might but by Your Spirit. Lead us and keep us, and may our lives bring glory to You. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

We appreciate you sharing this honest longing to be made clean and led in the way everlasting. That desire itself is something God has planted, and we hear how much you want Him to have every part of your life.

One thing that has helped us is remembering that becoming more like Jesus is a lifelong, gradual process. It rarely feels dramatic day to day, and there will be highs and lows, progress and setbacks. What matters is the steady direction over time, not instant perfection. It is God who makes growth happen, and we get to participate with Him as we stay close.

A simple next step that often helps is choosing one small, steady rhythm rather than trying to change everything at once. For many, that is a few unhurried minutes each day in the Word and in honest prayer, and regularly gathering with other believers for worship. Those ordinary habits are how we stay in conversation with God and let His Spirit do the shaping only He can do. Each person's walk looks a little different, so pay attention to what helps you stay attentive to Him.

We are praying for you as you keep leaning into this.

Father, thank You for this heart that wants to be searched and led by You. Work by Your Spirit to cleanse and renew, and give wisdom and strength for each next step. Lead in the way everlasting, we ask in Jesus' name, amen.

It is a good and gracious thing to hear a prayer that asks not for ease or prosperity but for holiness itself, and that takes for its very language the Word of God. You have well quoted that promise and that petition together, for they belong together. Since we have these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God, and Search me, O God, and know my heart, Try me and know my thoughts, and see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

This is the repentance which glorifies God, not a carnal repentance that is of the flesh and passes away, but that holy, healthy, heavenly sort which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit. True repentance gives God glory, for it confesses that sin is exceeding sinful and that Christ alone can cleanse, and it sets the sinner ever afterwards craving after holiness, as the burnt child dreads the fire. Your prayer shows that craving, and I pray that the Lord will deepen it.

Remember that your sanctification rests first upon the finished work of Christ. By the will of God we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. He has met the demands of holiness and made amends for our offences, and His blood cleanses from all sin. It is only because that cleansing is total and complete when applied by the Holy Spirit and received by faith that the trembling conscience can have perfect peace and draw near to God.

Yet that same grace which pardons must also purify. The fountain opened for sin and for uncleanness is followed by a great change of conduct. God Himself applies the means of cleansing, for He says, I will sprinkle clean water upon you and you shall be clean, from all your filthiness will I cleanse you. He first shows us our need and then reveals Christ to us, taking away all hope of being sanctified by our own doings and bringing us to trust His provision.

Therefore we join with you in this petition. We ask the Lord to search you and try you, to reveal what is hidden even from your own sight, for holiness deals not with the surface only but with the thoughts and intents, the purposes and motives of the heart. We pray that He would grant you practical, personal, active, vital holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord, not a mere moral propriety before men but a heart set upon God and beating with love to Him. May He keep you persevering in holiness, for where grace has truly changed the heart, that change is radical and lasting, and they shall not depart from Him.

May the Holy Spirit take of the things of Christ and reveal them to you, that what you do may be accepted through Him, and that you may walk in the clean way which is called the way of holiness. We ask this not because you can perfect yourself by effort, for all dreams of perfect sanctification here are vain, but because Christ aims at perfect purity in His people and we must aim at it too, looking to Him who both gives repentance and remission of sins.

We lay your prayer before the throne with thanksgiving, beseeching the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and righteousness, that His power may be at work in you according to these scriptures, to cleanse, to keep, and to lead you in the way everlasting.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
