0ld age part of the fallen state?

We know that death came about as a result of the fall. "Through one man death entered in," but now as I look upon it, I can't help but notice something else that's a "downer" -- the aging process! Someone in their youth is active, unending energy. Then you take a look at the same person when old, they can't do that anymore. Even animals, who were affected by the fall, it's the saddest thing to see a young dog pet running and playing, then when old can hardly move. So, since this breakdown eventually leads to death, and those things don't happen in God's kingdom, I would think that the aging process is also a result of the fall (?).

We hear your thoughtful reflection on the effects of the fall and how the aging process weighs heavily on your heart. You are absolutely right to connect aging and decay to the entrance of sin into the world. Scripture confirms that death and suffering are consequences of the fall, and aging is indeed part of that brokenness. Romans 5:12 tells us, "Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin; and so death passed to all men, because all sinned." The gradual decline of the body, the loss of strength, and the frailty that comes with age are all reminders of a creation that groans under the weight of sin, as Paul describes in Romans 8:22-23: "For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now. Not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our bodies."

It is heartbreaking to witness the effects of aging in ourselves and in those we love, whether human or animal. The vibrant energy of youth fading into weakness is a stark contrast to the life God originally intended for His creation. Yet we take comfort in knowing that this is not the end of the story. In Revelation 21:4, we are given this glorious promise: "He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away." The aging process, like death itself, will one day be reversed when Christ returns and restores all things.

We also recognize that aging can be a season of great spiritual fruitfulness. Psalm 92:14-15 declares, "They will still produce fruit in old age. They will be full of sap and green, to show that Yahweh is upright. He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him." Even in physical weakness, God can use the wisdom, experience, and faithfulness of those who have walked with Him for many years. We pray that you would see aging not only as a reminder of the fall but also as an opportunity to trust God’s faithfulness in every season of life.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that ache at the brokenness of this world, particularly the effects of aging and decay that remind us of sin’s entrance into creation. We thank You for the hope we have in Christ, who conquered death and promises to make all things new. Lord, we ask that You would comfort those who feel the weight of aging, whether in their own bodies or in the lives of those they love. Strengthen them with Your grace and remind them that even in weakness, Your power is made perfect. Help us to see this season of life as an opportunity to draw closer to You, to bear fruit for Your kingdom, and to trust in Your promise of eternal life where there will be no more pain, no more sorrow, and no more aging. We long for the day when You will wipe away every tear and restore all things. Until then, fill us with Your peace and hope. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to hold fast to the hope of resurrection and renewal. While aging is a difficult reminder of the fall, it is also a reminder that this world is not our final home. Keep your eyes fixed on Christ, who has overcome the grave and promises to restore all things. In the meantime, may you find joy in the purpose God has for you in every stage of life, and may you rest in the assurance that one day, all things will be made new.

We feel your sentiment, dear friend. The passage of time, with its inevitable aging and decay, is indeed a stark reminder of the fall and the brokenness that entered the world. It's heart-wrenching to see the vibrancy of youth fade into the frailty of old age, both in ourselves and in those we love. But let's not forget, we're not left to face this alone. Jesus, our Savior, has promised a new beginning, a new creation where there will be no more tears, no more sorrow, and no more aging. That's our hope, our anchor in the storms of life. Let's hold onto that promise, trusting in God's faithfulness, even in the face of aging and decay. Let's pray for each other, for strength, for comfort, and for a renewed vision of God's purpose in every stage of life. In Jesus' name, we pray.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for trusting us with your heartfelt prayer request and allowing us to stand with you in seeking God’s wisdom and comfort. Your reflection on the effects of the fall—how aging and decay touch not only our bodies but also the creatures around us—has stirred our hearts as well. It’s a heavy truth to carry, seeing the contrast between the vitality of youth and the frailty that comes with time, and we’ve lifted this burden before the Lord, asking Him to remind you of His promises.

We’ve prayed that God would grant you clarity, drawing you closer to His Word to reveal how aging fits into His redemptive plan. We’ve asked Him to comfort you with the hope of eternity, where there will be no more sorrow, no more pain, and no more decay—only life everlasting in His presence. And we’ve prayed that He would strengthen your faith as you wrestle with these questions, trusting that He is sovereign over all things, even the mysteries that weigh on our hearts.

If the Lord has already provided you with peace, insight, or a fresh understanding in this area, we would be so encouraged to hear how He has moved. Your praise report could be a blessing to others who are walking through similar struggles. If, however, you’re still seeking answers or wrestling with these thoughts, please don’t hesitate to share this request again. We’re here to continue praying alongside you, lifting your concerns to our Heavenly Father with persistence and faith.

May God continue to draw near to you as you seek Him, filling you with His peace that surpasses all understanding. May He remind you of His love, His faithfulness, and the hope we have in Jesus Christ, who conquered sin and death so that we might have life abundantly. We pray all these things in Jesus’ Name.
