As we’ve been moving through our Husband After God and Wife After God devotional series, we’ve been reminded over and over that the strength of our marriage isn’t something we muster up on our own—it’s something rooted deeply in who Christ is. In this week’s episode, we talked about confidence, worthiness, and bravery, and how each of these flows from one source: Christ alone.

The world tells us to build confidence through appearance, achievement, personality, or even through the approval of our spouse. But Jesus invites us to step off that shaky foundation and root our identity, security, and courage entirely in Him.

Confidence Begins with Worthiness in Christ

In Wife After God, we write about “confident worthiness”—a phrase we love because it reminds us that true confidence comes from understanding where our value actually comes from. Scripture tells us that God created us with thoughtfulness, precision, and purpose and that His thoughts toward us are “vast” and “precious” (Psalm 139:17)

When a wife looks to Christ for her worthiness, she’s no longer shaken by:

  • Shifting cultural expectations
  • Comparison
  • Insecurity
  • Pressure to perform
  • Her husband’s imperfect ability to affirm her

The truth is simple:
Christ doesn’t want to share any throne in your life—your identity, your confidence, your worthiness belong in Him and Him alone.

Bravery Begins With a Husband’s Confidence in God

For husbands, Husband After God calls men to a life of spiritual bravery—not just physical risk-taking, but courage to lead, protect, pray, speak truth, and stand firm in the faith. Scripture tells us:

“Fight the good fight of faith.” —1 Timothy 6:12

God has already equipped husbands with:

  • A spine to stand for what is right
  • Hands to work hard and provide
  • A mind to make wise choices
  • A heart to love unconditionally
  • Strength to pursue God’s will boldly

Bravery in marriage looks like showing up spiritually even when it feels uncomfortable, resisting temptation, repenting quickly, reading the Word to your family, and living with integrity “in the presence of many witnesses.”

How Christ-Confidence Strengthens Your Marriage

When both spouses root themselves in Christ:

  • Insecurity is replaced with peace
  • Selfishness gives way to sacrificial love
  • Communication becomes more honest
  • Spiritual leadership grows
  • Unity deepens
  • Marriages become resilient under pressure

As we shared on the podcast, when our source is Christ, we get to eat the good fruit from each other’s lives—and so do our children and the people around us.

If you’ve been seeking your identity in anything other than Jesus—your spouse, your appearance, your performance, or even your spiritual efforts—let today be the day you step back into the truth:

He is enough for you. He made you. He loves you. And He is the One who strengthens your marriage from the inside out.

Episode Summary

Confidence in Christ & Bravery in Marriage

🎙
What This Episode Is About

In this episode, we explore how true confidence and worthiness come from Christ alone — not from appearance, performance, or cultural definitions. We connect that truth with what it means for husbands to exercise spiritual bravery, and for wives to walk in godly worthiness. When both husband and wife anchor their identity in Christ, their marriage becomes stronger, healthier, and more resilient.

Key Themes & Scripture Foundations

  • Confident Worthiness for Wives

    • You were created with purpose, design, and value — not by the world, but by God Himself. Your worth is secure in Christ.

    • The throne of your life belongs to Christ alone — nothing, including cultural standards or performance, should share that seat.

  • Spiritual Bravery for Husbands

    • God calls husbands to a deeper kind of strength: spiritual leadership, moral integrity, bold obedience, and sacrificial love.

    • Bravery is not measured by worldly success or physical strength, but by the courage to follow Christ in everyday marriage life.

  • Marriage Strengthened from the Inside Out

    • When both husband and wife ground their identity and calling in Christ, they produce a marriage full of unity, mutual respect, honesty, and spiritual growth.

    • True worthiness + true bravery = a marriage that reflects the Gospel, rooted in grace, truth, humility, and love for God and for each other.

What This Means for You (Takeaways)

  • Your value and identity are found in Christ — not in appearance, success, or approval.

  • A wife secure in Christ won’t be shaken by culture, comparison, or pressure — because her worth doesn’t come from them.

  • A husband’s spiritual bravery doesn’t depend on physical might or worldly status — but on obedience, faith, and love grounded in Christ.

  • When both spouses lean into these truths, marriage becomes more than a contract or partnership: it becomes a God-honoring covenant.

  • Challenges, conflicts, and insecurities become opportunities for growth, humility, and deeper fellowship with Christ and each other.

Why This Matters for Christian Marriages

In a world where identity is defined by success, social media, and external approval — it’s easy for marriage to be built on shifting sands. But Christ-centered confidence and bravery provide a foundation that never shifts.

By building our worth on Christ and leading with spiritual courage, we give our marriage a stable anchor. This kind of foundation doesn’t just survive life’s storms — it grows through them.

Marriage becomes a place of sanctification, transformation, and mutual growth — not just companionship or convenience.

Invitation to Reflect & Respond

Take a moment with your spouse this week and ask:

  • Where am I trying to find my worth outside of Christ?

  • As a husband, how can I step forward in spiritual bravery today — in prayer, in love, in leadership?

  • As a wife, where do I need to rest in God’s worthiness rather than comparing or striving?

  • How can we lean on each other and on Christ to build a marriage that honors Him in identity, purpose, and unity?
