Not seeking the living among the dead; it means do not call something dead that is not dead.
Jesus was resurrected and He was no longer lain among the dead in the tombs, but some could not have faith and belief enough in Him and His resurrection power, even after what happened with Lazarus, to believe He truly was alive and left the tomb of His own power.
Instead of believing He was resurrected, as He foretold of, they more could believe that someone stole His body instead. They doubted and had a lack of faith in what Christ could and did do.
Lets look at this teaching in a faith lesson about marriage restoration.
Many come here convinced their marriages are dead. They get stuck in believing that because they are affected by what they see and hear. How many times do you read posts saying their spouse said this or that, and they are all down and out because of it, believing the changing of their spouses heart and restoration is impossible, that it has went too far, or is too late. That is looking for the living among the dead.
When a stander lacks faith and is tossed about like that, they want restoration but they are not having faith, so essentially they are looking for the living among the dead. They are believing what they see and hear, the death of the marriage, and praying God will resurrect some life out of the death. They are hanging out at the tomb just hoping to see the stone roll away and their spouse come out.
Well...if you believe the word of God and have full faith in what God says about your marriage, you wont be hanging out at the tomb and watching for the stone to roll away, because you know that it is already done and will come to you when Gods timing is right. Your marriage is not dead, never was, because God says so in His word. Your spouse and marriage are not dead laying in the tomb, they are out there very much alive and walking, coming back to you. Just as Jesus was.
While the tomb was being watched by some, and others were just downcast and believing it was over and trying to recoup from the loss, Jesus was walking the road back to them. So we do not call something dead that is not dead, and we do not hang out in doom and gloom just believing it is over and the end result lies in the tomb, and we do not hang out in despair at the tomb just hoping the stone will roll away. We know that our marriage is not dead, it is alive in Christ, it is resurrected, and is on the way back to us. Instead of mourning and weeping in despair, we should be rejoicing in resurrection of the marriage that we know is ours and is coming to us.
Woman, why weepest thou? Why are you hanging out at the tomb and weeping in mourning? Your marriage is not dead in the tomb, it is alive and resurrected and making its way back to you, get up and go prepare for the celebration. That is faith in God and His word. Why are you seeking restoration among the dead?
If you actually evaluate the difference between standers who are restored and those who are not yet, you will see a remarkable difference. With those who are restored you will find words of strong faith; their interaction with others; and how they are always stopping and helping to hold up the others who are weaker in faith. They have found a place of rock solidness in their faith for their own marriage, and are really busy just helping everyone else.
I started out the same as anyone else. I had a secure marriage one day and then the next it was traumatized. I was no different then anyone else, and I came seeking help like everyone else. I was broken, at the tomb, frightened, shaking, all that goes with. But someone showed me the word of God, just as I show standers who come here, and taught me how to pray the word, how to stand on the truth. I grabbed a hold of that and deadlocked my faith in the word, and then I set out to helping others, spreading the good news about marriage restoration, and it has never failed me, not once, as well as others who are restored. And there are those who have that same faith and service to the Lord with it, that are not yet restored, but they will be because they are diligent in it.
God not only expects us to just simply believe Him, to have that rock solid faith in what He promises; He expects us to go forth with it and share the good news, to put our faith into service for Him. The difference you will see is, those who have yet to find that rock solid faith in what God promises will get tossed about much easier, they will flounder when their spouse says negative words or takes negative action, they will flounder at the time it takes, become downhearted and doubting over this and many things, things people say to them, etc.
They will spend more time seeking prayer for their own situations then they spend praying for others. Now, there is nothing wrong with this, because faith is a growth thing and we do struggle until we come into that faith, and that is just how it goes, we need that help and word as our own faith grows and that is the purpose of this ministry. But, there is just the difference between a stander who has come into that faith walk and one that is still struggling and still making their way to that faith walk, and honestly then there are the few that never make it to that faith walk unfortunately.
But, you will see a difference in those who have reached that faith walk, and you will see pretty much nothing but strong faith in their posts, words of strength, and you will see them for the most part just here helping others, praying for them, giving them words of faith.
That is where God is trying to get every stander before restoration comes. And that is why those who are restored, you will find that amount of growth in their interactions. They were at a place where they were no longer standing at the tomb looking for the living among the dead. They were off spreading the good news, existing in the peace of God, not flinching in the face of the enemy and his lies, rejoicing over their own restorations that they knew were on the way, and just serving the Lord in the waiting.
Believing comes by hearing, and there are those who have reached the point of totally believing, unwavering so, they come into full bloom of their spiritual faith walk and then set out about sharing their faith to those who are still needing to hear and come into that place. It is a continuous cycle of those reaching that place and then helping others reach that place, and their restorations also stand as testimony to reaching their spiritual growth.
It saddens me greatly when restoration comes and the restored stander just goes off into the sunset never looking back, not staying to help others, because that was not God's purpose.
But overall, believing comes by hearing, and so teachings about faith are important, and the greatest faith is actually gained by helping others, even when you are not at a place of rock solid faith yourself. The more time you spend helping and praying for others, the more your own situation becomes less consuming, and your faith walk just tends to blossom tremendously on its own without so much of the growth pain noted.
