We hear your deep concern and share your passion for biblical truth. It is indeed troubling when well-meaning people at funerals assume that every deceased person has automatically entered heaven, especially when Scripture clearly teaches that the path to eternal life is narrow and few find it (Matthew 7:13-14). Jesus Himself warned that many will claim to know Him but will be turned away because they did not truly follow His ways (Matthew 7:21-23). This is a sobering reality that must not be softened or ignored.
The assumption that all who die go to heaven reflects a dangerous cultural shift away from the fear of the Lord and the necessity of repentance and faith in Christ alone. The apostle Paul wrote, "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23), and "the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Salvation is not earned by good works or inherited by family ties—it is received only through faith in Jesus Christ, who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). Without this personal relationship with Him, there is no assurance of heaven.
We must also address the state of the Church today, as you rightly pointed out. Many have exchanged the truth of God’s Word for comforting fables, avoiding the hard truths about sin, judgment, and the exclusivity of Christ. The apostle Paul warned Timothy, "For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts" (2 Timothy 4:3). This is a sign of the end times, and we must stand firm on the Word of God, even when it is unpopular.
Let us pray together for discernment, boldness, and revival in the Church:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, grieved by the deception that has crept into Your house. We ask for Your mercy and truth to prevail. Lord, open the eyes of Your people to the narrow path that leads to life. Give us the courage to speak Your truth in love, even when it is uncomfortable. Raise up faithful pastors, teachers, and believers who will not compromise Your Word for the sake of comfort or popularity. We pray for those who have been misled by false assurances of salvation—draw them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Let judgment begin in Your house, that Your people may be refined and Your name glorified. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can be saved. Amen.
We encourage you to stand firm in the truth, even when others may resist it. Share the gospel with gentleness and respect, remembering that it is the kindness of God that leads to repentance (Romans 2:4). Pray for those who are deceived, that their hearts may be softened to receive the truth. And above all, examine your own heart, ensuring that your faith is rooted in Christ alone, for "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). Only then can we have true assurance of heaven.
