What is Truth???

"Jesus answered, 'For this reason I was born and have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to My voice.' 'What is truth?' Pilate asked,'" John 18:38.

Most of the world still asks that question. In fact, because many people think of truth as relative, whereas it is actually absolute, it is needed to reassert what Truth actually is. Truth is not subjective, different for each person, but objective — truth is truth whether a person believes it or not… Truth is what Jesus says is Truth; 1) The Word of God; and, 2) The Holy Spirit of Truth.

1) The Word of God is The Truth. At a time when an AI search can gather info from 88 sources to give us an answer, one news agency is saying one thing and another news source another, one church or denomination has one position on a major issue and others have a different stance -- and at a time when people feel at liberty to assert what gender they are, or feel strongly about to whom a certain geographic area belongs -- it is now more needed than ever to know what God says is The Truth. Truth is not information or public opinion, but what Jesus, who is "The Way, The Truth and The Life," John 14:6, defines by Himself...

“Sanctify them in the truth; Your Word is truth," John 17:17.
"Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding," Prov 23:23.
"The entirety (or sum) of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever," Ps 119:160.

So the question must be raised, do we live by what we hear in our minds, or visions, or dreams, or do we go to Scripture like Jesus did in the wilderness when tempted by the devil? Jesus used both special revelation and The Word of God, but the only cautioned against special revelation... Matt 4:1, "Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after He had fasted for forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written: ‘Humanity shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from mouth of God.’”

Where "special revelation" can be profitable, and sometimes necessary, it by all means must line up with the Word of God, and the true prophets of the Old Testament, Jesus and True Apostles of The New Testament give more warnings about special revelation in regard to deception than praise for it...

“The prophet who has a dream may relate his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word in truth. What does straw have in common with grain?” declares the LORD," Jer 23:28. Also, "When they say to you, 'Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,' should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living? 20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn," Isaiah 8:19-20.

“For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect," Matt 24:24.

"For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. / So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths," 2 Timothy 4:3-4.

2) The Holy Spirit of Truth... The Holy Spirit does many things, but several are immediately necessary to state... He speaks what He hears from God, He leads us into more truth, He tells us what is yet to come, He testifies of Jesus, He reminds us of what Jesus has already said, teaches us and convicts the world of righteousness, sin and judgement to come...

"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come," John 16:13.

"All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work," 2 Tim 3:16-17.

Heavenly Father, "keep deception and lies far away," Prov 30:8, and "lead us and guide us into all truth," John 16:3. Help us give heed to the Scripture, "Pay close attention to yourself and to the teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will save both yourself and those who hear you," 1 Tim 4:16, in Jesus' Name.
