Romans 8:27 "And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of God, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints to the will of God".
What is praying in the Will of God? When we pray for, and with others, as well as for ourselves, we must first test what we are praying for by the Word of God; the Will of God. "Let all things be tested; keep to what is good." (1 Thessalonians 5:21). How can we pray in the Will of God, and know the Will of God? We know this when we are praying in HIS Spirit. But what is really praying in 'His Spirit?' Prayer is sincere; prayer is sensible; prayer is the affectionate and lovingly, pouring out the heart and soul to God, through Jesus Christ, with the strength, knowledge, wisdom, and assistance of the Holy Spirit. Praying for such things as God has promised, in accordance to His Word, which IS the Will of God, with submission in faith. "These are the things God has revealed to us by His Holy Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God." (1 Corinthians 2:10). So then, the Will of God is, and according to, the Word of God and His promises within. We are praying in God's Will, when it is within the compass of God's Word. To manipulate God's Word to be in-line with wordly, and materialistic gain; identifying with what the world is dictating as to what is really important, these prayers will go out empty. "You ask and you do not receive because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions." (James 4:3). David, when he prayed, kept his eyes on the Word of God, which is His will. "I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to Your Word." (Psalm 119:25). God's Word is synonymous with His Will.
When we pray in the spirit, we are therefore praying in the Will of God, through, and by, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. That is, the truth of His Word is revealed through, and in conjunction with, the Holy Spirit. "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God." (Romans 8:16).
So then, we can only understand by His holy Spirit. "But the advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you." (John 14:26). And in this, there is no understanding of His Word and Will without the mind understanding it! "So what will I do? I will pray with my spirit, but will also pray with my mind." (1 Corinthians 14:15). The mind, soul, and spirit works together with, and by the guidance of, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. When keeping in His Word, the Holy Spirit reveals God's Will. Here is the assurance we are praying in HIS WILL!
When we pray for others, we must pray for His truth and His will, not for appeasement. When using God's Word, not ours, in our prayers for others, they will not go out empty. "So is my Word that goes out from My mouth: it will NOT return empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it," (Isaiah 55:11).
