The life that is bestowed upon a believer when the Holy Spirit quickens the heart is none other then the life of Jesus.
When The Holy Spirit touches the heart, He begins His sanctifying work in the believer's heart, making him like Jesus(pure, compassionate, humble...) So every one who allowed the Spirit of Christ into their heart understands that faith is that LIVING connection between our souls and Jesus,
through which the Spirit leads a person in a away of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control
(From C. Spurgeon)
The true light is given to every man who comes into the world so that he might believe. (John 1:7,9). The light shines in darkness, but men do not understand that it is Christ anonymously reasoning with them, attempting to show (reprove) men for their evil. (John 1:5, Eph 5:13). Loving their selfish life, and hating the Light (who is Christ) that attempts to correct (reprove) them, selfish men flee from the light (Christ) and so remain in condemnation, walking in darkness, continuing to sin, fulfilling the lusts and desires of their flesh.
When you receive the Light and Word in your heart as Jesus speaking to you and revealing the things of God to you, you have received Him and identified Him as Jesus. From the Word of the Lord within: "When you are sure that he who is speaking to you is Christ, you have received Him. You are a son when Jesus appears in your heart to guide you.
You must believe what Jesus, the light and word within your heart, shows and says to you; to believe what He says and shows to you is to believe in Jesus.
To come after Christ you must wait in humble silence, listening for Him to speak to you from the Word within your heart; faith is to hear Him, and then you must obey Him. Self-denial occurs by obeying the Lord's voice instead of your will, (His will, not your will); this is bearing the cross — the inward cross of self-denial.
After your sinful nature has been put to death on the inward cross of self-denial, then you belong to Christ as you walk in love, following the Spirit, fulfilling the law; and then you receive an imputed righteousness.
