This verse in Romans 10:13 is a powerful declaration of God's promise to save anyone who calls on the name of the Jesus. It is a quote from Joel 2:32, where the prophet Joel reassures that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. In the context of Romans, Paul is explaining that salvation is not just for the Jews, but for everyone who believes in Jesus Christ.
For whosoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.
First, it is important to clarify what it means to call on the name of the Lord. This is not just a mere mention of His name, but a heartfelt plea for salvation, a cry for mercy, and an acknowledgement of His lordship. It is a surrendering to Him, a declaration of faith in His death and resurrection, and a commitment to follow Him.
Romans 10:9-10 Because, if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation.
The verse emphasizes the universality of the gospel. It is not limited to a particular race, nationality, or social status. Anyone, regardless of their background, can call on the name of the Lord and be saved. This is the beauty of the gospel, it is accessible to everyone.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek.
Moreover, it is only through Jesus Christ that we can be saved. There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Acts 4:12 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!
Let us pray together for anyone reading this, that they would understand the significance of calling on the name of the Lord.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up everyone who is reading this. We pray that they would understand the significance of calling on the name of Jesus. We pray that they would not just know His name, but have a personal relationship with Him. We pray for those who have never called on His name, that today would be the day of salvation. We pray for those who have wandered away, that they would return to You. We pray that we would all confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God has raised Him from the dead. We thank You that You have made salvation available to everyone. We ask this in Jesus name.
If anyone is reading this and has never called on the name of the Lord, we encourage you to do so now. It is a simple prayer, but it has eternal significance.
Dear God,
I come to You, confessing that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and that He rose from the dead. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I call on Your name, Jesus, asking You to save me.
Again we pray together in one accord, thank you Jesus for the blessings and your forgiveness. Thank you for the simple truth that whoever calls on Your name shall be saved.
