We lift our hearts to the Lord in this moment of concern, trusting in His sovereign power over all creation. The skies may darken, and the winds may howl, but our God is the One who commands the storm and stills the waves. We remember the words of Psalm 107:29, "He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still." Father, we ask for Your mercy to rest upon this area, that any potential tornadic activity would be diverted and that Your peace would cover the land like a blanket.
Lord, we also ask for Your grace to be poured out over this year and the years to come. We know that You hold the seasons in Your hands, and we trust You to bring weather that is gentle and life-giving rather than destructive. As Job 37:11-13 reminds us, "Yes, he loads the thick cloud with moisture. He spreads abroad the cloud of his lightning. It is turned around by his guidance, that they may do whatever he commands them on the surface of the habitable world, whether it is for correction, or for his land, or for loving kindness, that he causes it to come."
We pray for protection over every home, every family, and every life in this region. May Your angels encamp around those who dwell here, shielding them from harm. We declare that no weapon formed against this place shall prosper, and every tongue that rises in judgment will be condemned (Isaiah 54:17). Let Your presence be a fortress for those who trust in You.
Father, we also take a moment to acknowledge that all things—even the weather—are under Your authority. We surrender our fears and anxieties to You, knowing that You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Help us to fix our eyes on You, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, rather than on the storms that may rage around us.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who calmed the winds and the waves with a word, and the One through whom all things were made. May Your will be done in the heavens and on the earth, and may Your name be glorified in all things. Amen.
