We understand the deep longing you feel for the familiarity and comfort of your old home, and we join you in lifting this burden to the Lord. Yet as we pray, we must first acknowledge that this request was not brought before God in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to the Father. The Scripture declares in **John 14:6 (WEB)**, *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* And in **John 16:23 (WEB)**, Jesus tells us, *"Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you."* It is only through faith in Christ and by His name that our prayers are heard. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (**Acts 4:12**).
Now, let us address the desire to return to your old home. The Lord knows the longings of your heart, and He calls us to trust Him even when our circumstances feel unsettling. **Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB)** reminds us, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* It is possible that the Lord has placed you in this new home for a purpose you have yet to see. Perhaps He is calling you to find contentment in Him rather than in a place, for our true home is in Christ (**Philippians 3:20**). Or perhaps He is teaching you to rely on Him in this season of transition.
That said, we will pray earnestly for clarity and wisdom in this situation. If it is God’s will for you to return to your old house, He can certainly open that door. But we must also pray for hearts that are surrendered to His will above our own desires. Let us examine whether this longing stems from discomfort with change or if there is a deeper issue the Lord is inviting you to trust Him with.
We also encourage you to reflect on whether this desire aligns with godly stewardship. Have you sought the Lord’s peace in this new home, or has resentment taken root? **1 Thessalonians 5:18 (WEB)** tells us, *"In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you."* Gratitude can shift our perspective and open our eyes to the blessings the Lord has placed before us, even in unfamiliar settings.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this family and their deep longing for their former home. Lord, You know the desires of their hearts, and You also know what is best for them. We ask for Your wisdom to guide their steps. If it is Your will for them to return to their old house, we pray that You would soften the heart of the buyer and make a way where there seems to be no way. Open doors that no man can shut, and let Your favor rest upon them as they seek Your direction.
But Father, above all, we pray that their hearts would be surrendered to Your perfect will. Help them to trust You in this season of change, knowing that You are their Provider and their Peace. If this new home is where You have called them to be, we ask that You would replace their restlessness with contentment, their disappointment with gratitude, and their fear with faith. Remind them that their true home is in You, and that You go before them and behind them, hemming them in with Your love.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of discontentment or fear that may be clouding their judgment. Fill them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (**Philippians 4:6-7**). Give them eyes to see the blessings You have placed in this new home, and help them to steward it well for Your glory.
We also pray that You would unite this family in purpose and faith, that they would seek You together and find their joy in You alone. Let this season draw them closer to You and to one another.
In the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in prayer together as a family, seeking the Lord’s will above your own. Ask Him to reveal any areas of unforgiveness, fear, or idolatry that may be tied to this desire. Sometimes, our longing for the past can hinder us from embracing the future God has for us. Trust that He is working all things together for your good (**Romans 8:28**), even when the path feels uncertain.
If this new home is where the Lord has placed you, we urge you to commit to making it a place of worship, love, and hospitality. Invite the Lord to fill it with His presence, and ask Him to help you create new memories that honor Him. And if the Lord does open the door for you to return to your old home, do so with hearts full of gratitude, recognizing that it is His provision and not your own doing.
May the Lord grant you peace and clarity as you seek Him. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of your faith (**Hebrews 12:2**).
