I have read your urgent prayer and I hear how heavy this burden has felt for you and how much distress these concerns about your face and skin have brought. Thank you for bringing it so honestly before the Lord and before others who can pray with you. God hears you when you call on the name of Jesus, and He cares about all that weighs on your heart.
Scripture helps us see our body in a larger picture. You are not only a body. God made you as spirit and soul and body, and the body is the means by which your spirit expresses itself in this life. The human body is a marvel of design, wonderfully made from the dust, with real needs like breath and food and water, and it is also temporary. It is a tent we live in for now, and like all tents it shows wear and change. The true you, the spirit that God breathed into you, is what will live with Him forever. That does not make the body unimportant, but it helps keep it in its proper place, so that worry about what we eat or drink or wear, or how we look, does not rule our thoughts.
Because of this, the Bible calls us to yield our bodies to God. We have all at times yielded our bodies to serve our own desires or anxieties, but now we are invited to offer our bodies to Him as servants of righteousness and holiness. To pray, Lord here is my body, dwell in me by your Holy Spirit and use me for your purposes. When we do that, sin and fear shall not have dominion over us. That includes the fear and shame that can come from focusing on every mark or blemish. You can place your whole self, spirit and soul and body, into His hands and ask Him to keep you and use you.
At the same time, the Lord does care about bodily healing. The prophet Isaiah spoke of the Servant who would bear our sickness, and Matthew by the Holy Spirit applies that prophecy to the physical healings Jesus did, when many were brought to Him and He healed them. When Jesus took bread and said this is my body which is broken for you, He was pointing to the suffering He would endure for us. Through that broken body provision was made for forgiveness and also for healing. When we come to Him we can bring our physical needs to Him honestly, not demanding a particular outcome on our timetable, but trusting His power and His love to do what is best. Some are healed quickly, some over time through wise care, and all who belong to Him will finally be given a new body that is not subject to decay. What is sown as a natural body will be raised a spiritual body. This present body is corruptible and gradually grows old, but God has promised a building not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Whether we are living in this body or in that new one, we will live together with Him, and that is our lasting hope. Jesus said not to fear those who can harm only the body, but to rest in the One who holds both soul and body in His hands.
You are also not alone in this struggle. Scripture says as the body is one and has many members, so also is Christ. We are one body in Him, and when one member suffers, the whole body suffers with it, and when one is comforted we all rejoice. Your pain matters to the rest of the body, and we have a vital part in bearing one another up in prayer. You have a place and a purpose in that body that no one else can fill, and God has set each member as it has pleased Him.
Let me pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus I lift up this dear one to you. You know every detail of this body you created, every concern that has been named and every concern too deep for words. I ask for your peace to guard heart and mind, for freedom from constant fear about appearance, and for grace to see this life and this body through your eyes. Lord, you are able to heal, and I ask for your healing touch upon face and skin and whole body according to your perfect will and wisdom. Give guidance for wise and healthy care of the body, and help to yield this body to you daily as an instrument of righteousness. Preserve spirit and soul and body, and keep this one in your love until the day you give that new, incorruptible body. Help this heart to know how deeply loved and valued it is in Christ, created to know you and to bring you pleasure. I ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
