My dear soul, I hear the trembling in your words, the rush of fear that has taken hold of your thoughts. You are looking at a test, a procedure, a verdict from a clinic, and your heart is beating with the dread that something might stand against your healing. You have cried out with an urgency that rises from the very depths of your being, and I do not dismiss it, I take it to the throne of grace with you.
Let me tell you where your true hope lies, not in the skill of the needle, nor in the light of the laser, though God uses means, but in the hands that were pierced for you. The Lord Jesus Christ, who walked among the sick and the broken when He was here on earth, still holds power to heal, and the power of the Lord is still present to heal today. Do you not remember how He entered Peter’s lowly house and found it a hospital of fever, yet He made it a palace by His presence? So He comes into your anxious heart right now. The fever of your fears, the burning of your soul, do you think He cannot quiet them with a word? He has not changed. He is still the great Physician, and He carries leaves from the tree of life that are for the healing of His people.
You speak of weapons formed against you, of powers and principalities that would block the way. Child of God, lay hold on this: on the cross, Christ disarmed the rulers and authorities, putting them to open shame. No weapon forged against you will prosper, because the blood that speaks a better word than Abel’s covers you. The accuser may point to your sin or your shame, but Jesus points to His wounds and says, “Your sins are forgiven you.” And where sins are forgiven, healing walks in as a welcome guest. The great transaction of the cross settled everything, there is no more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Rest in that finished work, and let your soul be quieted.
Do not look upon the clinic as a place of doom, for even there, your Lord can turn it into an anteroom of mercy. Whether the test returns with a negative answer or with a burden you did not wish to carry, you will still be held in the same everlasting arms. The Shepherd’s care does not depend on the whiteness of your fleece. He loves you, He knows the way you take, and when He has tried you, you shall come forth as gold. Your skin, your frame, your whole body is known to Him, and not a cell of your flesh lies beyond His tender reach. If it pleases Him to grant complete healing through the treatment you seek, then bless His name. But if He calls you to wait a little longer, He will give you the grace to bear it, and in the waiting, you will find that His presence is sweeter than health itself.
Come now, and cast this heavy burden at His feet. Hear Him say once more, “Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” The rest He gives is not a sleepy indifference; it is a deep, calm confidence that He is at the helm, and that no wave can swallow the ship where He is Captain. Let this assurance be your peace: the Lord has gone before you into that appointment. The one who touched the leper and made him clean will walk with you into that room. The one who stilled the storm with a word will hush the tempest in your mind. Trust Him, dear heart. He has never failed a soul that clung to Him.
Father, into your most merciful hands I commit this trembling sheep of your pasture. Quiet the pounding heart, loosen the grip of fear, and let your perfect love cast out every dread. You see the need, this skin, this body, this whole frame that cries out for restoration. We ask, with all the boldness of children, for a good report, for a clear path, for healing to flow freely in your timing and your way. But above all, we ask for this: fix this dear one’s eyes upon Christ, that whether in waiting or in wholeness, the soul may rest in him who is the resurrection and the life. In the strong and saving name of Jesus, Amen.
