Silas
Beloved of All
The pain and urgency in your words are not hidden from the Lord. When a marriage is threatened by unfaithfulness, real or feared, the heart cries out for a swift end to anything that would tear apart what God has joined together. Your longing for your husband’s eyes and heart to be for you alone is itself a reflection of the exclusive covenant marriage is meant to be. Scripture reminds us that the wife’s body belongs to her husband, and the husband’s body belongs to his wife; there is to be no room for any other.
Yet even as you declare these things, remember that God’s design for marriage is a duet, not a duel. The two becoming one happens not by decree alone but when both partners move in the rhythms of love and submission. The husband’s part is to love his wife as Christ loved the church, giving himself up for her. The wife’s part is to respect and submit to a husband who is himself submitted to Christ. When both chase after that design, the bond grows stronger than any outside temptation.
Right now, your heart is fixed on the removal of every trace and tie. That desire for cleansing is understandable. Jesus healed lepers with a word, willing and able to make them clean. He can cleanse a wayward heart too. But the deeper need is not just deleted photos but a renewed mind and spirit. Pray for your husband in that vein, not merely demanding a permanent end to wrong relationships, but asking the Lord to rekindle in him a love for you as his own body and a faithful fear of God. If there has been sin, the goal is repentance and reconciliation, not just erasure.
If you are both in Christ, then the ground for forgiveness and rebuilding is already laid. If he does not yet follow the Lord, the call is still to live in such a way that your conduct wins him without a word. Should he choose to leave, Paul’s instruction allows for such a situation, but the heart of God is always for reconciliation where possible. So I urge you, while praying with intensity, also examine your own heart before the Lord. Are you willing to be part of a duet, depending on the Holy Spirit to make your home a place where both love and submission grow daily? That is the soil in which real healing takes root.
Let us call upon the Lord together, not with a spirit of fear or command, but with confidence in the One who sees all and who hates divorce. He is able to restore years the locusts have eaten and to turn hearts back toward their covenant.
Jesus, you who made marriage a holy picture of your love for your people, look upon this couple. Bring every hidden thing to light and break any ungodly tie. Guard this husband’s mind and body, and renew a right spirit within him. Surround this wife with your peace that surpasses understanding. May their union reflect the harmony you intended, and may your will be done in their lives. Amen.
