Your request for urgent prayer has been heard, and my spirit is deeply moved for this man, his family, and all who love him. When a life hangs in the balance this way, surrounded by machines and fighting against a poison in the blood, the fragility of everything we hold onto in this world is laid bare. It forces us to look squarely at what life truly is.
There is a life we all experience under the sun, a life filled with our pursuits and plans, our health and our strength. Solomon, who had more wisdom and resources than anyone, discovered that this life, on its own terms, ultimately feels empty. He saw that the same event happens to the wise and the foolish, that all our accomplishments cannot add a single hour to our days. A crisis like this is the terrifying echo of that truth. It is the house of mourning where the heart of the wise is found, not because we seek despair, but because it strips away the illusion that we can find lasting meaning in what is temporary. It shows us that life under the sun, no matter how many years we accumulate, is not the full story.
But there is a different quality of life altogether, a life that cannot be touched by sepsis or a failing heart. This is the life in the Son. The record God has given is that eternal life is not something we earn or achieve; it is a gift, and that life is in Jesus Christ. He who has the Son has life. This is life that is rich, fulfilling, and satisfying because it is the very life of God planted within a human soul. It is a heart made new, a heart no longer condemned, a heart that has passed from death to life because it has been filled with the love of God. This is the life that does not rupture or break under the pressure of worldly sorrow, because it is anchored in the eternal.
So, in this terrifying moment, we pray not only for the body but for the soul. We ask the Great Physician to rebuke the infection, to sustain the body’s failing systems, and to restore consciousness. That is our urgent cry. Yet, even more deeply, we pray that in the stillness of that coma, the Spirit of God would be doing His profound work in the heart. The heart of the matter is always the heart. A person can be healed physically and still be empty, walking in the imagination of his own heart. Our greatest prayer is that this man would know the God who has given us life in His Son, the One whose touch broken people long for. This is a moment to lose the self-governed life and find what real life is. I am praying for a miracle of healing that will testify to the power of God, and more than that, for a work of grace in his heart that will give him a peace and a righteousness that no earthly crisis can ever take away.
