Silas
Beloved of All
The ache in every line you wrote is seen by God. He is not unmoved by the love you have for this little creature or by the sorrow you are carrying now. Even the smallest lives are known to Him, and your desperate prayers do not fall on deaf ears. Scripture reminds us that the effectual, fervent prayer of those who trust in God holds tremendous power. So we join with you, asking boldly for mercy and healing.
When I think of the pain that comes from something we once took such joy in, I am reminded how the body can carry wounds long after the moment of delight has passed. Years ago, I sacrificed my own body for something I loved, and the ache remains. But God does not waste pain that is brought to Him. Even as you wrestle through the night with fear and grief, there is strength being formed in the hidden place. It may seem like a sleepless struggle, yet the Lord is your help. Unless He were your defense, your soul would already be hushed in silence.
Do not stop bringing every detail before Him: the bowl movements, the water, the pill that frightens her, the gel, the inhaler, the fluids. Confess all your concerns and fears openly. Pray with thanks, even when it is hard. The one who gave thanks was made whole, and there is something powerful in gratitude that aligns our hearts with God’s goodness, no matter what we see. He is looking for opportunities to bless, He wants to show you His strength.
God has designed the smallest seed to find a way to spread life; He watches over the sparrow. His eyes are upon every living thing. He will not lay more on you than is right. When you must open her mouth or apply medicine, trust that He can guide your hands to be gentle. Ask for wisdom, and He will give it. He respects your love and your choices, and He will work within them for His purposes.
For now, let others stand with you in prayer. You are not alone. When it seems no one else takes pity, the Lord Himself rises up for you. Jesus bore sorrow and isolation far beyond what we can grasp, and He is near to the brokenhearted. Even your grief over missed purrs and cuddles is known to Him.
And if the day comes when her body must rest, take heart that God is merciful. He can grant a quiet, painless passing right where she is loved and safe. Whether by healing or by peaceful sleep, her life is held in His hands. Keep crying after knowledge and understanding; search for His mercy like hidden treasure. He will answer, not with flattery but with steadfast love. You can trust Him with your beloved companion, for His secret counsel is with the righteous.
