Update on my precious princess cat

Dear all I’d like to thank you for all your prayers. We really appreciate it. Just wanna let you know. I had to put my cat down on ### October ###. Wednesday. She has now gone to heaven over the rainbow Bridge and I believe that one day I’ll be there with her.

We thank you for sharing this update with us and we grieve with you in the loss of your precious cat. We know how deep the bond can be with a beloved pet and how painful it is to make the difficult decision to let her go. We have been praying for you and we continue to lift you up now in your sorrow. The Lord sees your tears and your compassion for this little creature He entrusted to your care.

We want to gently share what Scripture teaches about our pets and about heaven, because we love you and want you to have true biblical comfort. The Bible shows us that God cares for His creation and that a righteous man respects the life of his animal Proverbs 12:10 and that not even a sparrow falls to the ground apart from your Father Matthew 10:29. Your love and mercy toward your cat reflected the heart of God. At the same time Scripture teaches that humans are made uniquely in the image of God with an eternal soul, while the spirit of animals is different. Who knows the spirit of man, whether it goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, whether it goes downward to the earth Ecclesiastes 3:21. The idea of the rainbow bridge, though it expresses a beautiful sentiment, is not a biblical teaching. The Bible does not promise that our pets will be in heaven as our loved ones are, but it does promise that heaven will be perfect and without sorrow, and that God will wipe away every tear from our eyes Revelation 21:4. We can trust His goodness with what we do not fully understand and find comfort that He does all things well, and we can thank Him for the joy and companionship He gave you through your cat for a season.

We also noticed your update did not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to God and the sure hope of heaven. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Our hope of being in heaven one day is not based on our love for our pets or our good deeds, but on believing in Jesus, that He died for our sins and rose again, and confessing Him as Lord. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. We long for you to have that settled assurance.

We pray together for you now. We ask our heavenly Father to draw near to you in this time of grief, for Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. We pray that He will heal your broken heart and bind up your wounds Psalm 147:3. We ask Him to fill you with His peace that passes all understanding and to remind you daily of His love and His eternal promises. We pray that if you have not yet done so, you would put your full trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, so that you may have the living hope of eternal life with Him. We ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and comfort, amen.

We encourage you to bring your sorrow honestly before the Lord in prayer, to thank Him for the gift of your cat and the memories you shared, and to rest in His care for you. He understands loss and He cares for you deeply. We will continue to pray that the Lord comforts you, strengthens you, and gives you His perfect peace in the days ahead.

Thank you for coming back to tell us what happened. We are so sorry for the loss of your princess. Losing a cat who has shared your home and daily life every day is a real loss, and having to make the decision to put her down makes it even heavier. It is understandable to feel the ache you are feeling now.

The love you had for her and the care you showed in letting her go when she was suffering reflects a tender heart. Grief does not follow a neat timetable, and it is normal for waves of sadness to come and go for a while.

One gentle step that helps many people is to give that grief a little space with someone safe. If you have a friend or family member who understood what she meant to you, let them hear a story or two about her in the coming days. Some also find comfort in keeping one simple remembrance, like a favorite photo where you will see it, as you adjust to the quiet in the house.

We are holding you in prayer and we are grateful you let us walk with you in this.

Jesus, we bring our friend to You in this sorrow. Thank You for the companionship and joy this little cat brought. Please bring comfort in the empty places at home, peace in the memory of saying goodbye, and Your nearness in the days ahead. Give rest and hope as only You can. In Jesus name, amen.

Your update has been received with sincere sorrow and we grieve with you in this loss. To love a creature that has been a daily companion and then to part with her, and to do so by the hard decision that was laid upon you on Wednesday, is a real affliction, and the Lord sees the tears that such partings bring.

We thank you for letting us pray with you, and we would still speak a word of true comfort to your aching heart. You speak with tender affection of your cat and of the rainbow bridge and of meeting her in heaven. We understand the longing that would have such a hope, yet we must gently tell you what the Word of God teaches, that our comfort may rest on sure ground. Heaven is the dwelling place of the redeemed, those whom God has quickened by His Spirit and washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, and salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. The creatures of His hand are under His care and are part of His good creation, but Scripture does not teach that they are carried as souls into the eternal glory prepared for His people. The rainbow is a token of God's covenant mercy, not a bridge for our beloved creatures, and we must not build our hope upon a tender fancy, but upon the sure promises of God.

What then shall comfort us when the heart is sore. The prophet hears the Lord say, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. That comfort is not a vague sentiment but a voice from His own Word to His own people. The Psalmist says, This is my comfort in my affliction, for Thy Word hath quickened me. It is not the letter only, but the Spirit working by the Word who quickens us, and so He comforts us. When He would comfort us He often does it not by removing the sorrow at once, but by quickening the soul to lay hold upon Christ.

There is, as the Scripture says, a tree whose leaves are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, and even His leaves, the smallest apprehensions of His grace, His smallest words and touches, have healing virtue. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. If you feel sick at heart this day, you may look up to this Tree and partake. Christ Himself is our healing and our pardon, and when He comes to dwell with His people, the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings.

So we would point your sorrow to Him. He knows what it is to weep, and He is able to comfort to purpose. Time may soften the sharpness of grief, as waters that pass away, but the abiding comfort is to be established in every good word and work by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God even our Father who hath loved us. If you are His child through faith in Christ, your eternal hope is not in finding again what has passed, but in being with the Lord, where every tear shall be wiped away and where joy has no end. That hope will not disappoint, because it rests on Him who died and rose again.

We pray that the Lord will quicken you by His Word, that you may say in this affliction, This is my comfort. May He give you His own comfort and establish your heart, and may you know more of the healing that flows from Christ alone. We continue to pray for you, that your grief may be turned into a nearer cleaving to the Saviour, in whom alone is life everlasting.
