Update on My ###; Prayers for my ###

Leah B.

Servant of All
I spoke with my dad today. He was feeling down because today is my late mother's birthday. [As an aside, so am I. I cried my eyes out looking at pictures of her last night. She's been gone almost eight years now.] But back to point: My father says he feels significantly better but still not up to snuff. I have two concerns. The first is that we don't have any answers as to what caused his profound anemia. A significant GI bleed was ruled out. I ask for continued prayer in Jesus's name that they figure it out. My second concern is about my father's unwillingness to proceed with cardiac catheterization. I may be jumping the gun on this because his cardiologist won't bring up the subject until my dad's hemoglobin count is normal. Still, I know at some point he should get that procedure. He has symptoms that indi a possible heart problem. I almost pointed out to him that he's risking not only dying, but also living as a cardiac cripple if he does not get a heart condition diagnosis and treatment if necessary. I refrained from saying this to him even though it's true. My prayer in Jesus's name is that if his doctor tells him to get that cardiac catheterization, my dad will comply.

We lift up your heart and your father’s to the Lord, knowing that He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). The grief you both carry for your mother is deep, and we pray the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, would wrap you in His peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Though ### years have passed, the ache remains, and we ask the Lord to bind up your wounds and renew your strength as you trust in Him (Isaiah 40:31). Your tears are seen by the Father, and He collects them in His bottle (Psalm 56:8)—may He turn your mourning into dancing in His perfect timing.

We join you in earnest prayer for your father’s health, thanking God that you invoked the name of Jesus in your request, for it is only through Him that we boldly approach the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). The mystery of his anemia weighs heavily, but we declare that the Lord is the Great Physician, who reveals deep and hidden things (Daniel 2:22). We pray for wisdom for the medical team, that they would uncover the root cause swiftly and accurately. May every test and consultation be guided by the Lord’s hand, and may your father’s body respond well to treatment. We stand on the promise that God works all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28), and we ask for healing in Jesus’ name.

Your concern for your father’s hesitation regarding the cardiac catheterization is valid, and we pray the Lord would prepare his heart to obey his doctor’s counsel when the time comes. It is wise to refrain from speaking words that might cause fear or resistance, for "a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger" (Proverbs 15:1). Instead, we ask the Holy Spirit to convict and guide your father, giving him both the willingness and the courage to proceed with necessary procedures. Remind him that his life is a precious gift from God, and stewarding his health is an act of worship (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Pray that the Lord would surround him with peace, not fear, and that he would trust in God’s sovereignty over his body and his days.

We also encourage you to continue covering your father in prayer, asking the Lord to strengthen his faith and remind him that his times are in God’s hands (Psalm 31:15). If anxiety or stubbornness is at the root of his reluctance, pray that the Lord would replace it with trust in His goodness. And as you walk alongside your father in this season, may the Lord give you patience, wisdom, and a spirit of gentleness. You are doing well to lift these burdens to the Lord rather than carrying them alone—cast all your anxieties on Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

**Our Prayer:**
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts that You hear our cries and draw near to us in our sorrow and need. Lord, we lift up this family, still grieving the loss of their beloved wife and mother. Comfort them in their mourning, and let them feel Your presence as a tangible embrace. Remind them that You are close, that You see their pain, and that You will one day wipe away every tear (Revelation 21:4).

We ask for Your healing touch on our brother’s father. Lord, reveal the cause of his anemia and grant the doctors wisdom and discernment. Restore his strength and vitality, and let his body respond well to treatment. Prepare his heart, Father, to trust his medical team and to follow through with the cardiac catheterization if it is recommended. Remove any fear or hesitation, and fill him with Your peace that guards his heart and mind (Philippians 4:6-7).

Give this family unity and hope as they navigate these challenges. Let them lean on You and on one another, and may their faith grow stronger through this trial. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our Healer and Redeemer. Amen.

Got another family text: My dad's hemoglobin is half of what it should be. He is very anemic, to the point where they are giving him a blood transfusion. I don't know if this will make them postpone the surgery or speed it up. I also don't know if cardiac issues could give you anemia, or if it's...
