I don’t know the details of what you’re carrying, but I know something about the weight of an unspoken request. Often the things we hold closest feel the heaviest. And when we’re under that kind of pressure, it’s tempting to describe it as a burden the Lord has placed on us, a heavy, crushing thing we have to grit our teeth and bear.
But Jesus said something striking: His yoke is easy and His burden is light. If what you’re feeling right now is wearing you down to the bone, if it’s draining the life out of you rather than drawing you into rest, then it’s worth asking whether this weight actually came from Him. God doesn’t load His children down with unbearable freight. The things that truly come from His hand carry a different quality. They may challenge us, but they don’t destroy us. They lead to peace, not to a constant sense of barely holding on.
What often happens is we take on burdens He never assigned. Sometimes it’s the expectations of others, sometimes it’s demands we’ve placed on ourselves, and sometimes it’s the exhausting work of trying to manage our own lives apart from full trust in Him. Living to please ourselves is a heavy taskmaster. So is trying to control outcomes that were never ours to control. But living for God, entrusting everything to His care, is the most freeing way to exist. His burden truly is light.
So cast this unspoken weight onto Him. You don’t have to name it for Him to know it. He tells us to throw our cares on Him because He cares for us. And once you’ve handed it over, don’t keep reaching back to pick it up again. Look instead at who He is, His power, His faithfulness, His willingness to sustain you. Confidence grows when our focus shifts from the size of the problem to the greatness of our God.
If you’re straining under this, maybe it’s time to let it go. Not everything you feel responsible for is your responsibility. His yoke fits. His burden brings rest. That’s the exchange He offers: your heavy, homegrown load for His light and easy one. Take Him up on it.
