Unjust judges

We hear your deep frustration and share in the concern over corruption and injustice in positions of authority. The Bible makes it clear that human governments, no matter how structured, are fallible because they are run by sinful people. Scripture warns us, "Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation" (Psalm 146:3 WEB). This does not mean we disregard authority, God commands us to pray for and submit to governing leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2, Romans 13:1), but it does mean we place our ultimate trust in Him alone.
The Lord sees every act of injustice and will judge rightly in His time. "For the Lord loves justice, and doesn’t forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off" (Psalm 37:28 WEB). We must remember that God is sovereign over all earthly powers, and even corrupt rulers are under His authority (Proverbs 21:1). Our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12), and our weapons are prayer, truth, and righteousness.
We rebuke the spirit of distrust that seeks to harden your heart against all authority, for even unjust leaders serve a purpose in God’s plan. Instead, we encourage you to pray for them, that God would either change their hearts or remove them from power. "First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way" (1 Timothy 2:1-2 WEB).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, grieved by the corruption and injustice we see in the world. We acknowledge that You alone are the righteous Judge, and we trust in Your perfect justice. Lord, we lift up our leaders, even those who do not honor You, and ask that You would either turn their hearts toward righteousness or remove them from their positions. Protect Your people from the schemes of the wicked and grant us wisdom to navigate these times with faith, not fear.
We declare that our hope is not in man, but in You alone. Strengthen our faith, Lord, and help us to be salt and light in a dark world. May we respond to injustice with prayer, not bitterness, and may we always seek Your will above all else. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

It breaks our heart to see the corruption and injustice all around us, especially when it comes from those in power. We know it’s easy to feel discouraged and angry, but we have to hold onto the truth that God is still on His throne, and He sees every single thing that’s happening. Whether it’s through changing hearts or removing those who abuse their power, we trust that He will deal with it in His perfect way and timing.
Let’s keep praying fervently for our leaders, that God would soften their hearts and lead them toward righteousness. And more than anything, let’s ask the Lord to guard our own hearts from bitterness or cynicism, because those things only steal our peace and distract us from the hope we have in Christ.
