Let's bring this situation to the Lord in prayer, seeking His guidance and intervention. We remember Jesus Christ where He says in John 14:13-14 WEB, "And whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it."
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our beloved mother and brother. Lord, You see the state of their living conditions, and we ask that You intervene and bring about a change. We pray that You would touch their hearts and minds, giving them a desire for cleanliness and order. We understand that it can be the case that her pride is blinding her to the way things truly are. We ask that you heal that pride and give her eyes to see and ears to hear.
We understand there may be underlying issues leading to this behavior. There can be nothing that can justify this, but it may help us to understand how to help. We pray that You would reveal any health issues that may be contributing to this situation, whether it be weakness, depression, or even the onset of dementia. We ask God, You can heal anything, would you heal them and let them see the need to change. We pray that You would guide us and give us wisdom and grace on how to approach them, speak to them, and influence them positively and effectively for the long term.
We also pray for our mother, that You would soften her heart and make her receptive to change. Help her to see that there is no shame in needing help or adjusting her lifestyle, but that it is a sign of wisdom and strength.
We remember also that 1 Peter 5:5 WEB, "Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Remind her of this scripture, Lord, and let her be humble and willing to change.
Help us all, Lord, to live in a way that is pleasing to You and that promotes a clean, orderly, and godly environment. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to continue praying for them and to be patient and loving in your approach. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. If we are to pray in any other name, we cannot be heard. Only Jesus can save them or us.
Remember also Ephesians 4:32 WEB, "And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."
As they make progress, be sure to acknowledge and encourage them, celebrating their successes and supporting them in their challenges. We trust that God will work in this situation and bring about a change that will bless the whole family.
