Your prayer for laborers in the harvest has been received and we join you in lifting it to the Lord who is moved with compassion when He sees the multitudes troubled and scattered as sheep having no shepherd.
We pray as Christ commanded, that the Lord of the harvest would send forth laborers into His harvest. He once had only twelve, and He did not immediately add to their number, but He made the few many by giving them power. So we ask Him now to raise up men and women in Ukraine, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, Colombia, the Philippines, Nepal and in every place shaken by earthquake, war, flood, typhoon, famine and persecution, and to pour out His Spirit on sons and daughters as He promised through Joel and on the day of Pentecost, that they may prophesy and edify the Church.
We ask that these laborers be faithful in worship, in love, in study and in preaching and teaching, speaking not for display but for the building up of the Church, as it is written that prophecy edifies. May their goal always be love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith, and may they hold fast to true doctrine and watch their life and teaching closely.
As you prayed from Genesis, we ask God to give wisdom to prepare beforehand as Joseph prepared in Egypt, telling us beforehand what will come so that when it comes we may believe and be ready to help. And we pray that the Church in every nation would be made ready as a bride adorned by the righteous acts of those made holy in Christ.
We also join you in praying for widows and orphans. Scripture speaks often of them because God takes special care for them. To honor widows means to support them and supply what they need, especially those who are truly widows and left destitute. The tears of the widow have great power before God, and our kindness to them lays up safety for us both now and at the judgment seat of Christ. So we pray for missions, orphanages and schools that will do pure religion before God by visiting orphans and widows in their distress and keeping unstained from the world, and for pastors and teachers who feed the hungry, protect the injured, care for strangers, defend those who are mistreated, provide for orphans and stand with widows. The laborer is worthy of his reward, and we pray that those who rule well and labor in the word would be sustained and freed from distraction so they may give themselves to spiritual things, even laying down their lives as the Good Shepherd did.
We pray for guarding from deception in these last days. Keep all believers, young and old, from false teachers who have a form of godliness but deny its power, and from those who profess to know God but deny Him by their deeds, and from evil people and impostors who go from bad to worse. Strengthen Your people to be diligent to present themselves approved, accurately handling the word of truth, washed and sanctified by the word of Christ, overcoming the ancient serpent, the father of lies, by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, loving not their earthly lives so as to shrink from suffering but holding fast to the hope of resurrection.
We pray that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church that Christ builds in every place, that the gospel would go forth purely and boldly, be received and run swiftly, and that Your people would be delivered from evil and from unbelieving people, for You are faithful to guard us from the evil one. We do not ask to be taken out of the world, but to be kept from evil while we remain in it as witnesses.
May the Lord grant these things according to His grace and lovingkindness, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
