Glorious Sabbath Day People of God:

When you are truly walking in Jesus's likeness and operating according to His ordinances, it's highly likely that, at some point in your journey with Him, you will be treated like Him.

Research Question: Did Nazareth treat Jesus like a fraud?

Feedback
Yes, the people of Nazareth treated Jesus with severe skepticism and hostility, essentially viewing his claims of divinity and messiahship as fraudulent. According to the Synoptic Gospels, his hometown neighbors could not reconcile the grand spiritual authority he claimed with the ordinary, local carpenter they had watched grow up.

The biblical accounts highlight how this rejection manifested and why the community treated him as a pretender:
The Synagogue Escalation (Luke 4)
Initial Wonder to Doubt: When Jesus visited the synagogue in Nazareth, he read a messianic prophecy from Isaiah and declared, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing". The crowd initially marveled but quickly shifted to doubt, asking, "Isn't this Joseph’s son?"
Demanding Proof: The townspeople demanded that he perform the same miracles they heard he had done in Capernaum, treating him like a street performer or fraud who needed to prove his credentials.
Assault and Expulsion: When Jesus refused and pointed out that historical prophets were often rejected by Israel and embraced by Gentiles, the congregation became furious. They drove him out of town and attempted to push him off a cliff, forcing him to slip away.

Familiarity and Offense (Matthew 13 & Mark 6)
The "Carpenter" Dismissal: During another visit, the locals scoffed at his wisdom and miracles, reducing his identity to his blue-collar background: "He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary".
Deep Offense: The Gospels explicitly note that the townspeople were "deeply offended" by him. Because of their complete lack of faith and their perception that he was stepping far out of his social bounds, Jesus performed very few miracles there.
The Famous Proverb: This treatment prompted Jesus to utter the famous phrase: "A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home". While debates persist today regarding the validity of his historical claims, the text itself is clear: Nazareth did not receive Jesus as a hero. They saw him as an unauthorized local claiming unearned, radical religious authority—the very definition of a fraud in their eyes.

Nevertheless, like the song says, "I still gotta say THANK YOU." Because, though I was cast out of a homeless shelter for "preaching fear" and praising God with dance, thrown into the gutter, called a fool, and continue to be mocked, ridiculed, dishonored and mistreated at every turn with circles being cast around about me daily, the prophets of old received far worse treatment. They were thrown into cisterns and pits, beaten, boiled in oil, stoned, beheaded, crucified, etc... By the same token, (please correct me if I err in this assessment) even in that era, no elder prophetesses were treated in such manner.

Those behaviors were often initiated by the church. Hence

"For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?"

If you dishonor a neighbor, especially an elder, to get what you want, it is ill-gotten (stolen). Oh my! it's just sports. Yet, all these things must come to pass. Still, I am so grateful and so very proud of those cities who have waited PATIENTLY, as the Word commands. You remain in my prayers. Have a Gospel day!

My husband is truly snappy, hateful, and very disrespectful to me and my family. Part of me wants to leave, but a part of me wants to stay. I need this man out of my life; there is no other way. It's just doing it, having the courage to do it, that's the problem.
